High magnification SEM observations for two types of granularity in a high burnup PWR fuel rim

Abstract Rim microstructure of an UO2 pellet irradiated up to 61 GWd/tU, observed with high magnification scanning electron microscopy, presented two types of subgrains: polyhedral and round subgrains. Round subgrains were also observed on the surface of fabrication pores along the pellet radius. These round-shaped subgrains seem to be associated to free surface rearrangement. This new type of round subgrains was proved to be independent of the rim effect. Observations of the fuel structure in the vicinity of rim area evidenced two types of defects specific to rim effect: planar defects and small intergranular pores. The photoelectrochemical behavior of anodic films on Al alloys, containing titanium, tantalum, and tungsten (valve metals), has been studied as a function of alloy composition and anodizing conditions. Photocurrent spectroscopy has been used to get information on bandgap and the flatband potential values of different mixed oxides. Both insulator-like and semiconducting behavior has been observed for anodic oxides grown on Al-W and Al-Ti alloys dependent on alloy initial composition. Chloride role in the surface of nickel electrode

The chloride ion participation in the dissolution process on nickel electrodes in acid media as well as in the formation of the passive layer and in the pitting corrosion induction were studied. Composite electrodes containing nickel powder dispersed in a polymeric matrix show similar processes to those observed in polycrystalline nickel. Furthermore, phenformine hydrochloride inhibits the dissolution process due to the adsorption of the organic cation on the metal surface, although it does not protect the metal from pitting corrosion. In most rodents and some other mammals, the removal of one lung results in compensatory growth associated with dramatic angiogenesis and complete restoration of lung capacity. One pivotal mechanism in neoalveolarization is neovascularization, because without angiogenesis new alveoli can not be formed. The aim of this study is to image and analyze three-dimensionally the different patterns of neovascularization seen following pneumonectomy in mice on a sub-micron-scale. Abstract A detailed investigation of the initial film grown on mechanically polished Mg electrodes has been carried out by ex situ X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and in situ Photocurrent Spectroscopy (PCS), allowing to reach a detailed picture of the passive layer structure. The XPS data show that the films formed soon after mechanical treatment and immersion in aqueous electrolyte have a bilayer structure, consisting of an ultra-thin MgO inner layer (∼2.5 nm) and a Mg(OH) 2 external layer.
