Fixed point for cyclic weak (\psi, C)-contractions in 0-complete partial metric spaces
2013
In this paper, following (W.A. Kirk, P.S. Srinivasan, P. Veeramani, Fixed points for mappings satisfying cyclical contractive conditions, Fixed Point Theory, 4 (2003), 79-89), we give a fixed point result for cyclic weak (ψ,C)-contractions on partial metric space. A Maia type fixed point theorem for cyclic weak (ψ,C)-contractions is also given.
Fixed point theory for cyclic weak ϕ-contraction in fuzzy metric spaces
2012
In this paper, we introduce cyclic weak $\phi-$contractions in fuzzy metric spaces and utilize the same to prove some results on existence and uniqueness of fixed point in fuzzy metric spaces. Some related results are also proved besides furnishing illustrative examples.
Discretionary fiscal policy over the cycle: new evidence based on the ESCB Disaggregated Approach
2009
This paper explores how discretionary fiscal policies on the revenue side of the government budget have reacted to economic fluctuations in European Union countries. For this purpose, it uses data on legislated revenue changes and structural indicators provided twice per year by National Central Banks of European Union countries in the ESCB framework for analysing fiscal policy. The analysis is based on the estimation of fiscal policy rules linking these measures of legislated fiscal policy changes to the output gap and other control variables. Then, baseline results are compared with regression estimates where variations of cyclically-adjusted indicators are used as proxy for discretionary…
Review of the safety, tolerability, and drug interactions of the new antifungal agents caspofungin and voriconazole
2003
Managing invasive fungal infections often presents a challenge for clinicians in the treatment of immunocompromised patients. Two very different systemic antifungal agents, voriconazole and caspofungin, have recently been introduced into the market place. Voriconazole is a new triazole antifungal, while caspofungin is the first echinocandin antifungal. Voriconazole acts by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane. Caspofungin inhibits beta-1,3-D-glucan synthesis in the cell wall, a target present in fungal cells, but absent from mammalian cells. Both agents are broad-spectrum, with efficacy against invasive Aspergillus and Candida infections. The safety and tolerab…
In vitro activity of fluconazole, voriconazole and caspofungin against clinical yeast isolates.
2007
Predicting the clinical outcome of a systemic mycosis is often a difficult task, especially when microbiological resistance is one of the factors contributing to therapeutic failure. Some of these factors are host-related--e.g. immune state, site and severity of infection, poor compliance to therapy--while others are associated with the drug's characteristics--e.g. dosage, type of compound (fungistatic/fungicidal), pharmacokinetic properties and drug-drug interactions. In the last few years, clinicians have been confronted with the problem of selecting the most appropriate antifungal therapy for systemic infections and have highlighted the need for a reliable method to assay the in vitro su…
A peptide inhibiting the collagen binding function of integrin alpha2I domain.
1999
Integrin alpha2 subunit forms in the complex with the beta1 subunit a cell surface receptor binding extracellular matrix molecules, such as collagens and laminin-1. It is a receptor for echovirus-1, as well. Ligands are recognized by the special "inserted" domain (I domain) in the integrin alpha2 subunit. Venom from a pit viper, Bothrops jararaca, has been shown to inhibit the interaction of platelet alpha2beta1 integrin with collagen because of the action of a disintegrin/metalloproteinase named jararhagin. The finding that crude B. jararaca venom could prevent the binding of human recombinant ralpha2I domain to type I collagen led us to study jararhagin further. Synthetic peptides represe…
Seismic behavior of exterior RC beam-column joints without code-specified ties in the joint core
2021
Abstract Beam-column joint design for reinforced concrete (RC) buildings is a critical issue for modern earthquake engineering, because for these structural elements, the current codes provide several geometrical constraints and reinforcement provisions, which may be very complex to implement during the construction phase. To investigate how a construction error might influence the joint behavior, two identical full-scale exterior beam-column joints specimens are built, according to Italian Building Code specifications for the high ductility class, but without the required horizontal ties inside the joint panel. This construction error could be plausible because, according to the design dra…
Experimental Study of the Effects of EIPA, Losartan, and BQ-123 on Electrophysiological Changes Induced by Myocardial Stretch
2015
Mechanisms underlying diabetes enhancement of endothelin-1-induced contraction in rabbit basilar artery
2004
The influence of alloxan-induced diabetes on the reactivity of rabbit basilar artery to endothelin-1 was examined. Endothelin-1 induced concentration-dependent contraction of basilar arteries that was higher in diabetic than in control rabbits. Endothelium removal produced a higher enhancement of the endothelin-1-induced contraction in control than in diabetic rabbits. N(G)-nitro-L-arginine (L-NOArg) enhanced the maximal contraction induced by endothelin-1 in control rabbits and potentiated this response in diabetic rabbits. Endothelin ETA receptor antagonist, cyclo(D-Asp-Pro-D-Val-Leu-D-Trp) (BQ-123), inhibited endothelin-1-induced contraction in both rabbit groups. Endothelin ETB receptor…
Intravenous BQ-123 and phosphoramidon reduce ventricular ectopic beats and myocardial infarct size in dogs submitted to coronary occlusion and reperf…
2001
Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of endothelin on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in anaesthetized dogs. Animals were submitted to left thoracotomy and 120 min of left anterior descending coronary occlusion, followed by 180 min of reperfusion. Arterial blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) were recorded in order to analyze heart rate (HR)–pressure product and production of ectopic beats. Infarcted areas were identified by a macroscopic staining method and infarct size was expressed as percentage of risk zone. To inhibit the effects of endothelin in a group of animals, we administered intravenously an endothelin synthesis inhibitor (phosphoramidon) and …
