Activation of self-renewal and meiotic genes in tumour cell lines resistant to genotoxic treatment
2014
Photoinduced DNA Lesions in Dormant Bacteria: The Peculiar Route Leading to Spore Photoproducts Characterized by Multiscale Molecular Dynamics
2020
International audience; Some bacterial species enter a dormant state in the form of spores to resist to unfavorable external conditions. Spores are resistant to a wide series of stress agents, including UV radiation, and can last for tens to hundreds of years. Due to the suspension of biological functions, such as DNA repair, they accumulate DNA damage upon exposure to UV radiation. Differently from active organisms, the most common DNA photoproducts in spores are not cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers, but rather the so‐called spore photoproducts. This noncanonical photochemistry results from the dry state of DNA and its binding to small, acid‐soluble proteins that drastically modify the struct…
Morālā kaitējuma kompensācija kriminālprocesā
2022
The polygenic nature of hypertriglyceridaemia: implications for definition, diagnosis, and management.
2014
Item does not contain fulltext Plasma triglyceride concentration is a biomarker for circulating triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and their metabolic remnants. Common mild-to-moderate hypertriglyceridaemia is typically multigenic, and results from the cumulative burden of common and rare variants in more than 30 genes, as quantified by genetic risk scores. Rare autosomal recessive monogenic hypertriglyceridaemia can result from large-effect mutations in six different genes. Hypertriglyceridaemia is exacerbated by non-genetic factors. On the basis of recent genetic data, we redefine the disorder into two states: severe (triglyceride concentration >10 mmol/L), which is more likely to have a mono…

Recognition and classification of external skin damage in citrus fruits using multispectral data and morphological features
2009
The computer vision systems currently used for the automatic inspection of citrus fruits are normally based on supervised methods that are capable of detecting defects on the surface of the fruit but are unable to discriminate between different types of defects. identifying the type of the defect affecting each fruit is very important in order to optimise the marketing profit and to be able to take measures to prevent such defects from occurring in the future. In this paper, we present a computer vision system that was developed for the recognition and classification of the most common external defects in citrus. in order to discriminate between 11 types of defects, images of the defects we…
Protective Effects of Foam Rolling against Inflammation and Notexin Induced Muscle Damage in Rats
2019
It is known that high-intensity exercise can cause inflammation and damage in muscle tissue, and in recent years, physical therapists and fitness professionals have begun to use foam rolling as a recovery method to improve performance. Despite the lack of basic science studies to support or refute the efficacy of foam rolling, the technique is very widely used in the sports world. In this respect, we investigated whether foam rolling could attenuate muscle damage and inflammation. Female Wistar rats were assigned to control (C), foam rolling (FR), notexin without foam rolling (N) and notexin with foam rolling (NFR) groups. A 4.5 x 2 cm foam roller was used to massage their hind legs (two 60…
2006
The objective of this work is to evaluate the fatigue dependency on the knee extensor muscles length. Exercises varying the type of contraction (isometric and eccentric) and intensity of contraction (maximal and sub-maximal) are performed in order to disrupt the neuromuscular system by different factors of fatigue: central and peripheral. These exercises are performed at two muscular lengths (S and L, corresponding respectively to 40 and 100° of knee flexion). Neuromuscular parameters (maximal torque, muscular twitch, voluntary activation level, electromyographic activity, etc.) are analyzed in pre- and post-fatigue conditions in the type of contraction required by the fatiguing exercise. I…
SIRT1 prevents genotoxic stress-induced p53 activation in acute myeloid leukemia
2014
SIRT1 is an important regulator of cellular stress response and genomic integrity. Its role in tumorigenesis is controversial. Whereas sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) can act as a tumor suppressor in some solid tumors, increased expression has been demonstrated in many cancers, including hematologic malignancies. In chronic myeloid leukemia, SIRT1 promoted leukemia development, and targeting SIRT1 sensitized chronic myeloid leukemia progenitors to tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment. In this study, we investigated the role of SIRT1 in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We show that SIRT1 protein, but not RNA levels, is overexpressed in AML samples harboring activating mutations in signaling pathways. In FMS-l…
