AN UNKNOWN TRIBUTE BY FARINELLI TO KING PHILIP V OF SPAIN
2021
ABSTRACTCarlo Broschi, better known as Farinelli, arrived in Madrid on 7 August 1737. King Philip V and his wife Elisabeth Farnese were deeply impressed by his vocal qualities and invited him to remain in their service, on extremely rewarding terms. Although few sources concerning his first months in Spain are available, a newly discovered libretto, L'ombra di Luigi XIV il Grande, sheds light on his position at the Spanish court and his response to the privileged situation he enjoyed. The work is a short solo cantata commissioned by Farinelli and offered to Philip V for his name day in 1738. The title-page indicates Francesco Feo as the composer, but no sources for the musical setting have …
The paper offers a hypothesis of interpretation of the decorative patterns of the Casina cinese at the Favorita Park in Palermo which is based on the component "in Chinese style" that is characterized by a strong Confucian element.
Uridine enhances the cytotoxic effect of D-glucosamine in rat C6 glioma cells.
1986
This paper studies the influence of uridine on the effects exerted by D-glucosamine in rat C6 glioma cells. 2 mM uridine increased markedly both the cytotoxic effect of the aminosugar and the inhibition of thymidine incorporation into acid-insoluble fraction. Furthermore the complete resumption of the capacity to incorporate either 3H-thymidine or 3H-mannose which was observed after the removal of the aminosugar, was impeded when the cells were treated contemporaneously with D-glucosamine and uridine. An exposure for 4 hr to 20 mM glucosamine alone enhanced about 15-fold the cellular pool of UDP-N-acetylhexosamines; the addition of 2 mM uridine intensified the expansion of this pool, which …
Oxidative Stress, Induced by Sub-Lethal Doses of BDE 209, Promotes Energy Management and Cell Cycle Modulation in the Marine Fish Cell Line SAF-1
2019
The effects of sub-lethal doses of polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)-209 in terms of toxicity, oxidative stress, and biomarkers were evaluated in the Sparus aurata fibroblast cell line (SAF-1). Vitality and oxidative stress status were studied after incubation with PBDE for 72 h. Concomitantly, the quantification of proteins related to cell cycle and DNA repair (p53), cell proliferation (extracellular signal&ndash
Sub-lethal doses of polybrominated diphenyl ethers affect some biomarkers involved in energy balance and cell cycle, via oxidative stress in the mari…
2019
Abstract Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a class of persistent contaminants which are found all over the world in the marine environment. Sparus aurata fibroblast cell line (SAF-1) was exposed to increasing concentrations of PBDEs 47 and 99, until 72 h to evaluate the cytotoxicity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and the expression of some selected molecular markers related to cell cycle, cell signaling, energetic balance and oxidative stress (p53, erk-1, hif-1α and nrf-2), by real-time PCR. Furthermore, SAF-1 cells were exposed for 7 and 15 days to sub-lethal concentrations, in order to evaluate the response of some biomarkers by immunoblotting (p53, ERK-1, AMPK, HIF-1α…
The chemical bonds in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2 studied with multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory
1994
The performance of multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory has been analyzed for the description of the bonding in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2. Large basis sets based on atomic natural orbitals (ANOS) were employed. The effects of enlarging the active space and including the core‐valence correlation contributions have also been analyzed. Spectroscopic constants have been computed for the corresponding ground state. The Ni2 molecule has been found to have a 0+g ground state with a computed dissociation energy of 2.10 eV, exp. 2.09 eV, and a bond distance of 2.23 Å. The dipole moments of NiH and CuH are computed to be 2.34 (exp. 2.4±0.1) and 2.66 D, respectively. pou@uv.es ; merchan@…
Molecular Stark-effect spectroscopy of Prodan and Laurdan in different solvents and electric dipole moments in their equilibrated ground and Franck–C…
2007
Abstract The results from electrooptical absorption measurements (EOAM) on the ground and excited Franck–Condon state dipole moments of Prodan and Laurdan in 1,4-dioxane and cyclohexane are presented. The ground and excited Franck–Condon state electric dipole moments as well as the respective transition moment of both probes are parallel. The electric dipole moments of Prodan and Laurdan in the ground state in cyclohexane and 1,4-dioxane have values within the range (15.7–16.5) × 10 −30 C m. On optical excitation the dipole moments increase by (42.1–49.5) × 10 −30 C m. The obtained results are compared with the values of the dipole moments of Prodan and Laurdan determined by other methods.
Studies of rotational level Λ-doubling by rf-optical double resonance spectroscopy: application to NaK D1Π
1997
Abstract We report here the application of optical-radio frequency double resonance spectroscopy for individual rotational levels of the NaK D 1 Π state. Lambda doubling constant q values for five ν′, J ′ levels are obtained. These data are combined with measurements of dc e - f Stark-mixing-induced changes in optical spectra, and the electric dipole moment d p in the D 1 Π state is determined.
Magnetic field-induced alignment of molecular rotor-shaped cyclophanes
2010
Molecular pinwheels consisting of dipolar substituted cyclophanes in solution can function as free microscopic rotors in the presence of a homogeneous static magnetic field B and a circularly polarized electric field E rotating on a plane containing B. Owing to the high magnetic anisotropy of [26](1,2,3,4,5,6)cyclophane and [36](1,2,3,4,5,6)cyclophane biased by strong ring currents, ∼1 in 105 molecules are expected to align with the C6 symmetry axis perpendicular to a magnetic field of 21 T. The magnetic-field-controlled alignment of rotor-shaped cyclophanes is insignificantly affected by nonpolar solvents, for example, toluene.
