A self-consistent 2-D model for the dip angle ofmantle downflow beneath an overriding continent

1999

Abstract We demonstrate how the inclination of descending mantle flow is affected by thepresence of a continent overriding the downwelling zone. The mantle is modelled by a fluidhaving a temperature- and pressure-dependent viscosity which describes a low viscosityasthenosphere and a higher viscosity lower mantle. The fluid occupies a square x:y=10:1 boxheated from below. In the absence of overlying continents thermal convection sets in with colddownwellings being nearly vertical. A continent is placed on the convecting mantle and starts todrift. The continent is assumed to be a thick rigid plate. We consider models of two types. Model1 involves a free-floating continent. The continent is pu…

Theoretical absorption spectrum of the Ar–CO van der Waals complex

2003

The three-dimensional intermolecular electric dipole moment surface of Ar–CO is calculated at the coupled cluster singles and doubles level of theory with the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set extended with a 3s3p2d1f1g set of midbond functions. Using the rovibrational energies and wave functions of our recent study [J. Chem. Phys. 117, 6562 (2002)], temperature-dependent spectral intensities are evaluated and compared to available experimental data. Based on the theoretical spectrum, alternative assignments of the experimentally observed lines in the fundamental band of CO around 2160 and 2166 cm−1 are suggested. Thomas.Bondo@uv.es

Evaluation of the Strength of Coupling Between a Vibrational Exciton and a Specific Low Frequency Mode

1993

In Davydov’s theory, one dimensional sub-systems within molecular crystals may exhibit self-trapping of some high frequency phonons as these travel by dipole resonance interaction, due to coupling to some specific soft oscillation mode1

Lateral indirect exchange coupling in a two-dimensional nanostripe array

2002

We observe a lateral indirect exchange coupling in a multistripe system of parallel Fe nanostripes grown by self-organized growth on a vicinal single-crystal W(110) surface. The width and the distance between the stripes of monolayer height were modified via the total amount of deposited Fe. The easy axis of the magnetization lies perpendicular to the stripe edges and in the surface plane, thus resulting in a ferromagnetic dipolar coupling. In addition to the dipolar coupling we observe an antiferromagnetic indirect exchange coupling for the nanostripe system covered by Au. The coupling causes a superferromagnetic phase transition in the nanostripe array.

Limits on anomalous trilinear gauge boson couplings from WW, WZ and Wγ production in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2012

We present searches for the anomalous γWW and ZWW trilinear gauge boson couplings from WW and WZ production using lepton plus dijet final states and a combination with results from Wγ, WW, and WZ production with leptonic final states. The analyzed data correspond to up to 8.6fb -1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector in pp- collisions at s=1.96TeV. We set the most stringent limits at a hadron collider to date assuming two different relations between the anomalous coupling parameters δκ γ, λ, and δg1Z for a cutoff energy scale Λ=2TeV. The combined 68% C.L. limits are -0.057lδκ γl0.154, -0.015lλl0.028, and -0.008lδg1Zl0.054 for the LEP parameterization, and -0.007lδκl0.081 an…

Axionlike Particles, Lepton-Flavor Violation, and a New Explanation of aμ and ae

2020

Axionlike particles (ALPs) with lepton-flavor-violating couplings can be probed in exotic muon and tau decays. The sensitivity of different experiments depends strongly on the ALP mass and its couplings to leptons and photons. For ALPs that can be resonantly produced, the sensitivity of three-body decays such as μ→3e and τ→3μ exceeds by many orders of magnitude that of radiative decays like μ→eγ and τ→μγ. Searches for these two types of processes are therefore highly complementary. We discuss experimental constraints on ALPs with a single dominant lepton-flavor-violating coupling. Allowing for one or more such couplings offers qualitatively new ways to explain the anomalies related to the m…

Experimental constraints on the coupling of the Higgs boson to electrons

2015

In the standard model (SM), the coupling of the Higgs boson to electrons is real and very small, proportional to the electron mass. New physics could significantly modify both real and imaginary parts of this coupling. We discuss experiments which are sensitive to the Higgs-electron coupling and derive the current bounds on new physics contributing to this coupling. The strongest constraint follows from the ACME bound on the electron electric dipole moment (EDM). We calculate the full analytic two-loop result for the electron EDM and show that it bounds the imaginary part of the Higgs-electron coupling to be less than 1.7 x 10^-2 times the SM electron Yukawa coupling. Deviations of the real…

The development of reflective learning in the context of health counselling and health promotion during nurse education.

2001

The development of reflective learning in the context of health counselling and health promotion during nurse education Aims and background. The purpose of this follow-up study was to describe the development of reflective learning of 16 student nurses in the context of health counselling and promotion during clinical training of a 3-year nursing education programme in two Finnish polytechnics. The first aim was to analyse the levels of reflectivity in the student nurses’ reflections on their videotaped counselling situations. The second aim was to explore the qualitative features of the reflective health counselling learning process in the context of health promotion. The theoretical backg…

Una tipología de desajustes entre competencias y educación utilizando un análisis comparativo entre países

2015

This paper aims to discuss the value of the diplomas and the situation of downgrading on the labour market. Its novelty is to compare skills both acquired and required in employment, using a self - assessment carried out by young higher education graduates a cross nine countries of Europe, Japan and Canada. More precisely, we illustrate the incidences of diploma and skill mismatches using three higher education graduate surveys, two international surveys (CHEERS, REFLEX) and a Canadian survey (NGS). We define possible over - education and skill mismatches and then present an empirical typology to show the most frequent cases of mismatches. The ideal situation which corresponds to a perfect …
