Dopamine agonist administration causes a reduction in endometrial implants through modulation of angiogenesis in experimentally induced endometriosis
2009
Survival of newly implanted retrograde-shed endometrial tissue during menstruation in an ectopic location requires an adequate blood supply. This suggests that angiogenesis is a prerequisite for the development of endometriosis and that its inhibition may be a target for preventing development. Previous studies have shown that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a heparin-binding glycoprotein, has an essential role in angiogenesis. The main regulatory factor for angiogenesis appears to be binding of VEGF to its type-2 receptor (VEGFR-2). Cabergoline (Cb2) and other dopamine agonists promote endocytosis of the VEGF receptor-2 (VEGFR-2) in endothelial cells, thereby preventing VEGF-VEG…
5-6 gadīgu bērnu tēlainās domāšanas veicināšana vizuālās mākslas nodarbībās pirmsskolā
2017
Diet, authoritarianism, social dominance orientation, and predisposition to prejudice
2015
Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to examine whether reported food habits (vegan, vegetarian, or carnivore diet) are associated with right-wing authoritarianism, prejudices against minorities and acceptance of social dominance. Design/methodology/approach – In total, 1,381 individuals completed validated questionnaires on dietary habits and attitudes. Associations were analysed using analyses of covariance on attitudes, adjusted for age with gender and diet as factors. Findings – Of the respondents, 35 per cent reported eating mixed food (including meat and fish), 31 per cent vegetarian food (excluding meat and fish) and 34 per cent vegan food (excluding animal products entirely). Membrane topology and post-translational modification of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae essential protein Rot1.
2007
ROT1 is an essential gene that has been related to cell wall biosynthesis, the actin cytoskeleton and protein folding. In order to help to understand its molecular function, we carried out a characterization of the Rot1 protein. It is primarily located at the endoplasmic reticulum-nuclear membrane facing the lumen. Rot1 migrates more slowly than expected, which might suggest post-translational modification. Our results indicate that Rot1 is a protein that is neither GPI-anchored nor O-glycosylated. In contrast, it is N-glycosylated. By a directed mutagenesis of several Asn residues, we identified that the protein is simultaneously glycosylated at N103, N107 and N139. Although the mutation o…
Hemoprotozoa of domestic animals in France: Prevalence and molecular characterization
2008
Very limited information is available on epizootiology of haematozoan infections in French domestic animals. In an attempt to address this issue, prevalence of piroplasmida was studied in carnivores and ruminants, whereas prevalence of Hepatozoon spp. was only investigated in carnivores. In total, 383 animals were included in the survey (namely 116 cats, 108 dogs, 91 sheep and 68 cows). Parasite diagnosis was carried out using molecular methods such as PCR and sequencing of the 18S rRNA gene. In addition, ruminant samples were analyzed with the reverse line blotting technique (RLB). Results of RLB and PCR plus sequencing were in total agreement. In carnivores, haematozoan prevalence was clo…
Ecological, morphological and genetic characterization of sympatric Haemonchus spp. parasites of domestic ruminants in Mauritania
1995
SUMMARYThe 4 species of ruminants (dromedary, zebu cattle, sheep and goat) in arid areas of Mauritania harboured Haemonchus spp. as the most frequent internal parasite. This was a rare situation where the 3 putative species, H. longistipes (dromedary), H. placet (zebu cattle) and H. contortus (sheep and goat) occurred sympatrically. The study was undertaken on hosts slaughtered at the Nouakchott abattoir, on the basis of monthly collection of worms. The environment was very unfavourable to H. placei and unfavourable to H. contortus, as intensity of infection remained low throughout the year, whereas infection in the dromedary was 10 to 20-fold higher. The survival strategies during the long…
Nonlinear vibrations of elastic beams with external general visco-elastic devices
2011
Vibration damping for slender beams is achieved by applying devices at external points. The latter consist of general single visco-elastic springpot elements. An approximate nonlinear boundary value problem is found in frequency domain that holds for moderately large vibrations or for linear beams with external nonlinear devices, both in the vicinity of primary resonances. The interaction force of a so-called springpot element is expressed as a sum of two separate forces: the first develops due to the external loading function at the device location, and the second contribution arises due to an imposed time-harmonic support excitation with no other external forces acting on the structure. F…
