Rôle du cortex piriforme dans la mémoire olfactive: une étude comportementale et anatomo-fonctionnelle à l'aide de la détection immunohistochimique d…

2006

Because of its anatomical and functional features, the piriform cortex (PC) could play a crucial rolein olfactory learning and memory. We studied its implication in mnesic processes using theimmunodetection of Fos protein in rat. A water-rewarded olfactory discrimination task in a four-armsmaze was used for conditioning. We analysed Fos expression in PC as well as in neocortex andhippocampus, after completion of the discrimination task, at different time-points throughout learningand following its reactivation. In PC, we showed that Fos expression was different depending of thevelocity to learning of the conditioned rat. Furthermore, we confirmed the functional heterogeneity ofthe PC subdiv…

Self-polarization of light in optical fibers

2015

The second performs the first experimental demonstration of the polarization domain walls which cancel the effects which degrade the intensity and spectral profile of a telecom signal during propagation. This phenomenon comes from non-linear coupling between the two orthogonal polarization modes of light propagating in a Kerr medium in normal dispersion regime, and causes a modulation in phase opposition of the two modes along the fiber. It is possible to lock two optical pulse trains complementary intensity so that the pulses do not suffer the effects of distortion occurring in the fiber in order to maintain the information to be transmitted. And a distortion-free propagation was achieved …

Supercontinuum spectral-domain ghost imaging

2018

International audience; Ghost imaging is a technique that generates high-resolution images by correlating the intensity of two light beams, neither of which independently contains useful information about the shape of the object. Ghost imaging has been demonstrated in both the spatial and temporal domains, using incoherent classical light sources or entangled photon pairs. Here we exploit the recent progress in ultrafast real-time measurement techniques to demonstrate ultrafast, scan-free, ghost imaging in the frequency domain using a continuous spectrum from an incoherent supercontinuum light source with random spectral fluctuations. We demonstrate the application of this technique to broa…

Nonlinear Sculpturing of Optical Pulses in Fibre Systems

2019

The interplay among the effects of dispersion, nonlinearity and gain/loss in optical fibre systems can be efficiently used to shape the pulses and manipulate and control the light dynamics and, hence, lead to different pulse-shaping regimes [1,2]. However, achieving a precise waveform with various prescribed characteristics is a complex issue that requires careful choice of the initial pulse conditions and system parameters. The general problem of optimisation towards a target operational regime in a complex multi-parameter space can be intelligently addressed by implementing machine-learning strategies. In this paper, we discuss a novel approach to the characterisation and optimisation of …

Cross-phase modulation effects in normal dispersive fibers and their applications

2018

In this Ph.D., physical effects arising from cross-phase modulation between twoorthogonally polarized signals propagating in normal dispersion fibers arestudied and some of their applications investigated.First, a 40-GHz pulse generator is designed by sending two orthogonallypolarized out-of-phase sinusoidal waves in a normally dispersive optical fiber.A large power imbalance between the two waves induces a periodic phasepotential for the weak replica which turns the normal dispersive defocusingregime into a focusing dynamics, thus compressing the sinusoidal wave intoshort and well-separated pulses.A signal sampler and magnifier was then designed using the same principle, sending a high powe…

Mixed Driven Refinement Design of Multidimensional Models based on Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering

2015

20 pages; International audience; Data warehouses (DW) and OLAP systems are business intelligence technologies allowing the on-line analysis of huge volume of data according to users' needs. The success of DW projects essentially depends on the design phase where functional requirements meet data sources (mixed design methodology) (Phipps and Davis, 2002). However, when dealing with complex applications existing design methodologies seem inefficient since decision-makers define functional requirements that cannot be deduced from data sources (data driven approach) and/or they have not sufficient application domain knowledge (user driven approach) (Sautot et al., 2014b). Therefore, in this p…

Terahertz Biomedical Imaging: From Multivariate Analysis and Detection to Material Parameter Extraction

2017

Terahertz imaging is an interesting route for biomedical analysis. In particular, cancer imaging is a subject of study for different teams [1,2]. A work is done in Bordeaux in partnership with a hospital to do terahertz analysis of breast tissue. This work is done in reflection with time domain imaging setup with fresh samples. The aim is to accurately assess tumor margins and which could in the future allow a quick validation of the precision of the surgical procedure and know if new surgery should be performed. We have presented in a previous paper [3] the use of automatic methods of image generation with different parameters [4] in order to explore the different contrasts that exist in t…

Contribution des pollinisateurs dans la production de colza et de tournesol en zone atelier « Plaine et Val de Sèvre »

2018

Insect pollination is essential for over 70% of crops around the world. However, the contribution of pollinators to crop production and the insects involved in crop pollination have rarely been studied. Moreover, assessments of pollinator contributions have mostly been conducted on a small scale or under simplified conditions, which do not represent the real contributions at the field scale and do not take into account possible interactions between pollinators and farming practices. The aim of this study is to quantify directly under field conditions, the contribution of pollinators in two crops frequently cultivated in Europe: oilseed rape and sunflower. Estimations are realized both at th…
