Roman inscriptions from Paterna, Valencia, and Riba-Roja de Túria (Territorium of Valentia, Hispania Citerior)
2014
This article presents eleven new Roman inscriptions on various supports that were found in the last decade in different excavations in locations situated in the vicinity of Valencia and in the city itself, all of them within the territorium of the ancient city of Valentia.
orthoFind Facilitates the Discovery of Homologous and Orthologous Proteins
2015
Finding homologous and orthologous protein sequences is often the first step in evolutionary studies, annotation projects, and experiments of functional complementation. Despite all currently available computational tools, there is a requirement for easy-to-use tools that provide functional information. Here, a new web application called orthoFind is presented, which allows a quick search for homologous and orthologous proteins given one or more query sequences, allowing a recurrent and exhaustive search against reference proteomes, and being able to include user databases. It addresses the protein multidomain problem, searching for homologs with the same domain architecture, and gives a si…
2021
Diplomdarba “4. klases skolēnu argumentācijas prasmju pilnveide krievu valodas stundās” mērķis ir izpētīt didaktiskās iespējas argumentācijas prasmju pilnveidošanā 4. klases skolēniem, ņemot vērā mūsdienu lingvodidaktikā uzkrāto pieredzi un skolēnu argumentācijas prasmju reālo līmeni. Pētījuma aktualitāti nosaka, ka argumentācijas prasmes ir būtiska cilvēka komunikatīvās kompetences un kultūras daļa. Pētījumā iegūtie dati ļāva noformulēt galvenās problēmas skolēnu argumentācijas prasmju attīstīšanā; izzināt skolēnu argumentācijas prasmju līmeni, kāda veida grūtības novēro šajā jomā un ar kāda veida metodēm un paņemieniem skolotāja mēģina novērst nepilnības skolēnu argumentācijas prasmju pil…
Domain wall energy in quasi-one-dimensional Fe/W(110) nanostripes
2003
The magnetic susceptibility in Fe/W(110) nanostripes decreases exponentially with increasing temperature according to an Arrhenius law which indicates a quasi-one-dimensional behavior. The interface energy of the Arrhenius law corresponds to the domain wall energy of a domain wall across a single stripe, separating fluctuating regions of homogeneous magnetization. The domain wall energy increases linearly with the width of the stripes, revealing a negative offset which we attribute to boundary effects. Domain wall energies have been determined for Fe/W(110) nanostripes coated with Au and Pd and are compared to values for uncoated Fe/W(110) nanostripes in ultrahigh vacuum.
Enhancer trap infidelity in Drosophila optomotor-blind
2013
Reporter gene activity in enhancer trap lines is often implicitly assumed to mirror quite faithfully the endogenous expression of the "trapped" gene, even though there are numerous examples of enhancer trap infidelity. optomotor-blind (omb) is a 160 kb gene in which 16 independent P-element enhancer trap insertions of three different types have been mapped in a range of more than 60 kb. We have determined the expression pattern of these elements in wing, eye-antennal and leg imaginal discs as well as in the pupal tergites. We noted that one pGawB insertion (omb (P4) ) selectively failed to report parts of the omb pattern even though the missing pattern elements were apparent in all other 15…
Floral volatiles in a sapromyiophilous plant and their importance in attracting house fly pollinators
2015
Floral scent in sapromyiophilous plants often consists of complex blends with not only fetid (e.g., sulfides) but also sweet (e.g., terpenoids) volatile organic compounds and a recent study suggests that both groups of compounds are involved in pollinator attraction. However, little is known about the number and identity of compounds involved in pollinator attraction in these deceptive plants that mimic breeding sites of fly pollinators. In the present paper, we studied flower volatiles of sapromyiophilous Periploca laevigata and their capability to elicit biological responses in one of the pollinator species, Musca domestica. Floral volatiles were collected by dynamic headspace and analyse…
Olfactory attraction of the hornet Vespa velutina to honeybee colony odors and pheromones.
2014
19 pages; International audience; Since the beginning of the last century, the number of biological invasions has continuously increased worldwide. Due to their environmental and economical consequences, invasive species are now a major concern. Social wasps are particularly efficient invaders because of their distinctive biology and behavior. Among them, the yellow-legged hornet, Vespa velutina, is a keen hunter of domestic honeybees. Its recent introduction to Europe may induce important beekeeping, pollination, and biodiversity problems. Hornets use olfactory cues for the long-range detection of food sources, in this case the location of honeybee colonies, but the exact nature of these c…
