Floquet engineering of magnetism in topological insulator thin films

2023

Dynamic manipulation of magnetism in topological materials is demonstrated here via a Floquet engineering approach using circularly polarized light. Increasing the strength of the laser field, besides the expected topological phase transition, the magnetically doped topological insulator thin film also undergoes a magnetic phase transition from ferromagnetism to paramagnetism, whose critical behavior strongly depends on the quantum quenching. In sharp contrast to the equilibrium case, the non-equilibrium Curie temperatures vary for different time scale and experimental setup, not all relying on change of topology. Our discoveries deepen the understanding of the relationship between topology…

Experimental evidence for a local disorder in pure and doped perovskites

1992

Abstract In the soft mode picture, the ferroelectric phase transitions in most of ABO3 perovskites are triggered by the long wavelength oscillations of the B ions against their oxygen cage. There is now a lot of experimental evidence that this picture is incomplete. An extra contribution has to be included in the dynamical response. This contribution is usually thought to arise from local lattice distorsions; this is what will be called local disorder. A complete understanding of this local disorder requires the experimental determination of the microscopic origin, of the dynamics and spatial extension of the lattice distorsions. A useful way to summarize these requirements is to use the co…

Algebraic value of the electrooptic coefficients and nature of charge carriers in batio3single crystals

1989

Abstract Some monodomain pure and Fe doped barium titanate monocrystals are studied. The algebraic values of the electrooptic coefficients r 13 and r 33 are evaluated using an interferometric method. Then, from energy transfer results it is possible to conclude that majority carriers are positive charges in all the samples.

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), substance use disorders, and criminality: a difficult problem with complex solutions.

2014

Abstract The association between attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and criminality has been increasingly recognized as an important societal concern. Studies conducted in different settings have revealed high rates of ADHD among adolescent offenders. The risk for criminal behavior among individuals with ADHD is increased when there is psychiatric comorbidity, particularly conduct disorder and substance use disorder. In the present report, it is aimed to systematically review the literature on the epidemiological, neurobiological, and other risk factors contributing to this association, as well as the key aspects of the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of ADHD among offende…

Congenital mitral regurgitation caused by a perforation in the anterior leaflet: Perioperative evaluation by color-coded Doppler echocardiography

1990

Color-coded two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography confirmed the presence of severe congenital mitral regurgitation in an 8-month-old infant. Intraoperative inspection revealed an isolated perforation in the anterior leaflet.

In-situ monitoring by Raman spectroscopy of the thermal doping of graphene and MoS2 in O-2-controlled atmosphere

2017

The effects of temperature and atmosphere (air and O2) on the doping of monolayers of graphene (Gr) on SiO2 and Si substrates, and on the doping of MoS2 multilayer flakes transferred on the same substrates have been investigated. The investigations were carried out by in situ micro-Raman spectroscopy during thermal treatments up to 430 °C, and by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The spectral positions of the G and 2D Raman bands of Gr undergo only minor changes during treatment, while their amplitude and full width at half maximum (FWHM) vary as a function of the temperature and the used atmosphere. The thermal treatments in oxygen atmosphere show, in addition to a thermal effect, an effect a…

Graphene p-Type Doping and Stability by Thermal Treatments in Molecular Oxygen Controlled Atmosphere

2015

Doping and stability of monolayer low defect content graphene transferred on a silicon dioxide substrate on silicon are investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM) during thermal treatments in oxygen and vacuum controlled atmosphere. The exposure to molecular oxygen induces graphene changes as evidenced by a blue-shift of the G and 2D Raman bands, together with the decrease of I2D/IG intensity ratio, which are consistent with a high p-type doping (∼1013 cm-2) of graphene. The successive thermal treatment in vacuum does not affect the induced doping showing this latter stability. By investigating the temperature range 140-350 °C and the process time evolution, …

Incomplete self-similarity and flow velocity in gravel bed channels

2000

Velocity measurements, previously carried out using both a miniature current flowmeter and an acoustic Doppler velocimeter, are used to verify the applicability of the incomplete self-similarity theory to deduce the velocity profile in a gravel bed channel. Then, for the velocity profiles having the maximum value below the free surface and for the S-shaped profiles, the power velocity distribution is corrected using a new divergence function. For each value of the depth sediment ratio the nondimensional friction factor parameter is calculated by integration of the measured velocity distributions in the different verticals of the cross section. Finally, a semilogarithmic flow resistance equa…
