Editor's Choice – Follow-up of Patients After Revascularisation for Peripheral Arterial Diseases: A Consensus Document From the European Society of C…

2019

International audience; Peripheral arterial diseases comprise different clinical presentations, from cerebrovascular disease down to lower extremity artery disease, from subclinical to disabling symptoms and events. According to clinical presentation, the patient's general condition, anatomical location and extension of lesions, revascularisation may be needed in addition to best medical treatment. The 2017 European Society of Cardiology guidelines in collaboration with the European Society for Vascular Surgery have addressed the indications for revascularisation. While most cases are amenable to either endovascular or surgical revascularisation, maintaining long-term patency is often chall…

Bioactive Oleic Derivatives of Dopamine: A Review of the Therapeutic Potential

2018

Lipid derivatives of dopamine are a novel class of compounds raising a research interest due to the potential of their being a vehicle for dopamine delivery to the brain. The aim of the present paper is to review the main features of the two most prominent bioactive members of this family, namely, N-oleoyl-dopamine (OLDA) and 3′-O-methyl-N-oleoyl-dopamine (OMe-OLDA), with emphasis on the possible therapeutic properties.

Oleic Derivatives of Dopamine and Respiration

2018

Ventilatory inhibition is considered an undesirable pharmacological side effect of pharmacotherapy in neurodegenerative conditions underlain by brain dopamine deficiency. In this context, oleic derivatives of dopamine or N-acyl-dopamines are novel substances that may be of high therapeutic interest as having the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and acting in dopamine-like manner. In the present study we seek to define the influence of N-acyl-dopamines on lung ventilation and its hypoxic responses in the rat. We found that N-oleoyl-dopamine decreased both normoxic and peak hypoxic ventilation in response to 8% acute hypoxia, on average, by 31% and 41%, respectively. Its metabolite, 3…

From the Golgi-Cajal mapping to the transmitter-based characterization of the neuronal networks leading to two modes of brain communication: Wiring a…

2007

After Golgi-Cajal mapped neural circuits, the discovery and mapping of the central monoamine neurons opened up for a new understanding of interneuronal communication by indicating that another form of communication exists. For instance, it was found that dopamine may be released as a prolactin inhibitory factor from the median eminence, indicating an alternative mode of dopamine communication in the brain. Subsequently, the analysis of the locus coeruleus noradrenaline neurons demonstrated a novel type of lower brainstem neuron that monosynaptically and globally innervated the entire CNS. Furthermore, the ascending raphe serotonin neuron systems were found to globally innervate the forebrai…

Reduction of red-green discrimination by dopamine D1 receptor antagonists and retinal dopamine depletion

1996

AbstractReduction of wavelength discrimination ability in the 560–640 nm range, but not in the 404–540 nm range, has been demonstrated in goldfish after intravitreal injection of D1-dopamine receptor antagonists. Intravitreal injection of the dopaminergic neurotoxin 6-OH-dopamine severely reduced wavelength discrimination ability in the 540–661 nm range within 3 days. Discrimination ability could be reconstituted by the Dl-agonist SKF 38393. Animals recovered from injection of 6-OH-dopamine within 14–16 days. No change of wavelength discrimination was induced by 6-OH-dopamine in the 461–540 nm range. We conclude that under photopic conditions dopamine modulates retinal mechanisms involved i…

Non-Contact Measurement of River Surface Velocity and Discharge Estimation with a Low-Cost Doppler Radar Sensor

2020

River discharge is an important variable to measure in order to predict droughts and flood occurrences. Once the cross-sectional geometry of the river is known, discharge can be inferred from water level and surface flow velocity measurements. Since river discharges are of particular interest during extreme weather events, when river sites cannot be safely accessed, noncontact sensing technologies are particularly appealing. To this purpose, this work proposes a prototype of a low-cost continuous wave (CW) Doppler radar sensor, which is able to monitor the surface flow velocity of rivers. The prototype is tested at two gauged sites in central Italy, along the Tiber River. The surface flow v…

Ocena zależności pomiędzy objawami klinicznymi przewlekłej niewydolności żylnej i ultrasonograficznymi cechami refluksu żylnego u chorych z żylakami …

2001

Positron emission tomography in CNS drug discovery and drug monitoring.

2014

Molecular imaging methods such as positron emission tomography (PET) are increasingly involved in the development of new drugs. Using radioactive tracers as imaging probes, PET allows the determination of the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of a drug candidate, via recording target engagement, the pattern of distribution, and metabolism. Because of the noninvasive nature and quantitative end point obtainable by molecular imaging, it seems inherently suited for the examination of a pharmaceutical’s behavior in the brain. Molecular imaging, most especially PET, can therefore be a valuable tool in CNS drug research. In this Perspective, we present the basic principles of PET, th…

Intraoperative microvascular Doppler monitoring of blood flow within a spinal dural arteriovenous fistula: a precious surgical tool. Case report.

2001

The authors describe a case of spinal arteriovenous fistula (AVF) treated by a microvauscular Doppler–assisted surgical interruption of the arterialized vein. Microvascular Doppler monitoring represents a valid, widely available, non-invasive tool that enables identification, through flow spectrum analysis, of components of this type of vascular malformation. In this case because the location of the fistula was identified prior to opening the dura only minimally invasive surgery was required. Direct recordings of the arterialized draining vein and the nidus of the fistula demonstrated a pathological spectrum caused by the arterial supply and the disturbed venous outflow in which a high-resi…
