EPR study of Ce3+ luminescent centers in the Y2SiO5 single crystalline films

2017

Abstract The work reports results of EPR investigation of the Ce3+ incorporation in the Y2SiO5 and (Y,La)2SiO5 single crystalline films (SCFs), grown by liquid phase epitaxy method. The Ce3+ content determined from EPR spectra varied between 0.49 and 0.65 at. % in Y2SiO5 SCFs and strongly increased up to 1.9 at. % in (Y,La)2SiO5 SCF, suggesting a positive role of the La dopant in the incorporation of the Ce3+ ions into Y2SiO5 host. The EPR study showed the presence of only one type of Ce3+ centers (Ce1) corresponding to the localization of Ce3+ ions in the seven–fold coordinated positions of the Y2SiO5 host. No Ce2 center spectra (six-fold coordinated Ce3+ positions) were detected in films …

Graphene‐SiO2 Interaction from Composites to Doping

2019

An overview of the interaction between monolayer graphene and SiO2 dielectric substrate is reported focusing on the effect this latter has on doping and strain induced by thermal treatments in controlled atmosphere. The disentanglement of strain and doping is highlighted and the comparison with another dielectric substrate of Al2O3 evidences the critical role that the substrate has in the electronic properties of graphene. The reported results pave the way for microelectronic devices based on graphene on dielectrics and for Fermi level tuning in composites of graphene and nanoparticles.

Electrochemical treatment of real wastewater. Part 1: Effluents with low conductivity

2018

Abstract The treatment of a real wastewater characterized by low conductivity was performed by anodic oxidation at boron doped diamond (BDD) in both conventional and microfluidic cells. The electrolyses carried out in conventional cells without supporting electrolyte were characterized by very high TOC removals but excessively high energetic consumptions and operating costs. The addition of sodium sulphate, as supporting electrolyte, allowed to strongly reduce the cell potentials and consequently the energetic consumptions and the operating costs. However, under various operating conditions, the addition of Na2SO4 caused a lower removal of the TOC. The best results in terms of both TOC remo…

Sol-gel assisted molten-salt synthesis of novel single phase Y3–2xCa2xTaxAl5−xO12:1%Eu garnet structure phosphors

2022

Strong absorption and emission are the key the features of any phosphor. The results obtained during this study demonstrate the difficulty of the incorporation of tantalum ions into the garnet structure and reveal that only the combination of Sol-Gel synthesis method together with Molten-Salt technique enable to obtain a single-phase cubic garnet structure. Note that, the Sol-Gel synthesis assisted by further processing by Molten-Salt technique can be a potentially new way of material preparation reported in literature. This work also proves that this combination of synthesis methods is much more capable of incorporating ions with large ionic radii into the garnet structure as compared to t…

Structural and electrical properties of magnetron sputtered Ti(ON) thin films:The case of TiN doped in situ with oxygen.

2009

International audience; Incorporation of oxygen into TiN lattice results in formation of titanium oxynitrides, TiOxNy that have become particularly interesting for photocatalytic applications. Elaboration as well as characterization of TiN and in situ oxygen-doped thin films is the subject of this paper. Thin films, 250–320nm in thickness, have been deposited by dc-pulsed magnetron reactive sputtering from Ti target under controllable gas flows of Ar, N2 and O2. Optical monitoring of Ti plasma emission line at = 500nm has been implemented in order to stabilize the sputtering rate. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction in grazing incidence (GIXRD), micro-Raman spectroscopy, X…

Changes in structure and conduction type upon addition of Ir to ZnO thin films

2017

Zn-Ir-O (Zn/Ir ≈ 1/1) thin films have been reported to be a potential p-type TCO material. It is, however, unknown whether it is possible to achieve p-type conductivity at low Ir content, and how the type and the magnitude of conductivity are affected by the film structure. To investigate the changes in properties taking place at low and moderate Ir content, this study focuses on the structure, electrical and optical properties of ZnO:Ir films with iridium concentration varying between 0.0 and 16.4 at.%. ZnO:Ir thin films were deposited on glass, Si, and Ti substrates by DC reactive magnetron co-sputtering at room temperature. Low Ir content (up to 5.1 at.%) films contain both a nano-crysta…

Influence of Cavity Loss Upon Performance of Q-Switched Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser

2013

Performance of an actively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser in function of intracavity loss is discussed. We show experimentally and theoretically (employing a distributed model that takes into account two contra-propagating laser waves) that the laser performance strongly depends on the intracavity loss of different kinds. We reveal in particular that the dominant source of smaller than expected pulse energy is the loss via excited-state absorption, inherent in erbium-doped fibers. We also discuss the other important processes involved in active Q-switching, such as passive losses and residual active fiber charge, the impact of which is clarified by a straightforward comparison of the m…

Anodic Electro Deposition of CeO2 and Co-Doped CeO2 Thin Films

2013

CeO2 and Co containing CeO2 thin films were deposited on indium tin oxide and stainless steel by anodic electrodeposition. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the films are flat and show globular morphology and cracks resulting from volume shrinking. According to XRD and Raman Spectroscopy pure ceria layers are crystalline, while the presence of Co induces the formation of amorphous films. The good adhesion and the compactness allowed the photoelectrochemical characterization of the films. A band gap value of 2.9 eV was estimated for CeO2, while slightly higher values (̃3.0 eV) were estimated for Co containing films. A mechanism for ceria anodic electrodeposition is proposed and discus…
