Inflammation and impaired endothelium-dependant vasodilatation in non obese women with gestational diabetes mellitus: preliminary results

2013

International audience; BACKGROUND: To evaluate whether abnormal endothelial function, a common finding in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) pregnancies, can be explained by inflammatory cytokines. METHODS: Forearm skin blood flow (FSBF), into response to acetylcholine (Ach) (endothelium-dependent vasodilatation), were measured in 24 pregnant control subjects and 28 gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) women, in the third trimester of gestation. A fasting glycemic and lipidic panel was obtained, and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha and IL-6) and adiponectin were also determined. RESULTS: FSBF is significantly reduced in GDM group compared with control subjects (344.59 +/- 57.791 vs.176.38…

Discussion on 'Estimating depth-averaged velocities in rough channels'

2002

In this short communication the four estimate criteria of the depth-averaged local velocity proposed by Byrd et al. (Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 2000, Vol. 25, pp. 167-173) are compared both with the three-point method of Bathurst and with the average velocity obtained by integrating the velocity profile (FPa2) suggested by Ferro and Pecoraro (Water Resources Research, 2000, vol. 36, pp. 2761-2770). The comparison was carried out using 84 velocity profiles measured by an acoustic Doppler velocimeter in a rectangular flume with a gravel bed. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley and Sons, Ltd.

DEFECTS IN DOPAMINERGIC PATHWAY AFFECT CONTRACTILITY OF COLON FROM HYPOXANTHINE-GUANINE PHOSPHORIBOSYLTRANSFERASE (HPRT) KNOCKOUT MICE.

2010

Lesch-Nyhan disease is an X-linked neurobehavioral and metabolic disorder caused by lack of hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT), a housekeeping enzyme responsible for recycling purines. The mechanisms underlying the neuropathology are not well understood, but the main neurochemical defect, in central nervous system, is linked to a dysfunction of dopaminergic pathway. In the enteric nervous system the dopaminergic nerves are a subset neurons of regulating gut motility, thus we investigated possible changes in colonic motility of HPRT ¯mice related to the dopaminergic control. We evaluated, in vitro, the mechanical activity of circular muscle strips from wild type and HPRT – mouse c…

Effect of in Doping on the ZnO Powders Morphology and Microstructure Evolution of ZnO:In Ceramics as a Material for Scintillators

2018

Transparent ZnO ceramics are of interest for use as material for high-efficiency fast scintillators. Doping ZnO ceramics in order to improve complex of their properties is a promising direction. In the present research, the role of indium in the ZnO nanopowders surface interactions and in the change of microstructures and photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of sintered cera-mics is considered. Undoped and 0.13 wt% In doped ZnO ceramics are obtained by hot pressing sintering. It has been found that indium leads to the transition of initially faceted ZnO particles to rounded, contributing to good sintering with formation of diffusion active grain boundaries (GBs). Unlike ZnO ceramics, ZnO:…
