Traditional Architecture and seismic security. Earthquake in the Madonie inner mountain area of Sicily: damages and construction techniques
2017
Modeling by the finite element method of acoustic radiation in waveguides lined with locally or non locally reacting absorbent materials in the prese…
2011
Our concern in this work is the problem of acoustic propagation in guides lined with locally or non locally reacting materials with the presence of mean fluid flow. In several industrial systems such as aircraft jet engines, mufflers exhaust and ventilation systems, noise is mostly channeled outside by guides of more or less complex geometries. A study of waveguides makes it possible to predict and understand the physical phenomena such as refraction, convection, absorption and wave attenuation. In waveguides studies, guides are often considered infinitely long to get rid of some phenomena (reflection for example) at their ends. Solving the problem of acoustic propagation in infinite guides…
OntoVersionGraph : a change management methodology dedicated to formal ontologies and their user views in a collaborative context
2014
The world changes over time, impacting the knowledge of every subdomain it contains. Therefore systems describing the knowledge of a certain domain should be able to consider changes occurred to keep its knowledge representation up-to-date. Formal ontologies are one of them: they explicitly and formally represent the knowledge of a domain in all its forms and modes of existence. Collaboratively developed, a formal ontology allows the domain users to understand each other by sharing the same terminology despite the different assumptions they have on the domain conceptualization. However, due to its completeness, the complexity of its conceptualization can sometimes make the domain knowledge …
Modeling lead input and output in soils using lead isotopic geochemistry
2004
The aim of this study is to model downward migration of lead from the plow layer of an experimental site located in Versailles (about 15 km southwest of Paris, France). Since 1928, samples have been collected annually from the topsoil of three control plots maintained in bare fallow. Thirty samples from 10 different years were analyzed for their lead and scandium contents and lead isotopic compositions. The fluxes are simple because of the well-controlled experimental conditions in Versailles: only one output flux, described as a first-order differential function of the anthropogenic lead pool, was taken into account; the inputs were exclusively ascribed to atmospheric deposition. The combi…

Initial dominance of salty taste increases saltiness in heterogeneous food products
2012
In the worldwide context of healthy diet, a reduction of sodium intake is recommended. However, low-salt foods are poorly appreciated by consumers due to flavour drawbacks. Among the various strategies under investigation to compensate for salt reduction at a sensory level, the combination of aroma-taste interactions and tastants heterogeneous distribution is a promising one. This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of such a strategy throughout the full eating experience. To do so, Temporal Dominance of Sensation (TDS) was used to assess the saltiness enhancement in hot model snacks specifically designed to vary in salt and aroma distribution. According to an optimized experimental …
Heterogeneous salt distribution: A way to enhance saltiness without loss of acceptability
2012
Health authorities recommend a drastic reduction of salt content in food products. However, such reduction leads to a decrease in both saltiness and acceptability. In a series of experiments, we investigated a new strategy to compensate for salt reduction in food. We assessed the effect of heterogeneous salt distribution on saltiness enhancement, and food acceptability. First, we examined whether salt distribution could affect sodium perception in a salty baked food. This model food is composed of two layers: a cream-based and a cereal-based layer. Three salt levels were tested within each layer, according to a full factorial design. A panel of consumers (n=87) evaluated saltiness of each f…
Electronic implementation of a non-linear oscillator subjected to noise : application to the modeling of neuronal information coding
2011
We study the nonlinear FitzHugh-Nagumo model witch describes the dynamics of excitable neural element. It is well known that this system exhibits three different possible responses. Indeed, the system can be mono-stable, oscillatory or bistable. In the oscillatory regime, the system periodically responds by generating action potential. By contrast, in the mono-stable state the system response remains constant after a transient. Under certain conditions, the system can undergo a bifurcation between the stable and the oscillatory regime via the so called Andronov-Hopf bifurcation. In this Phd thesis, we consider the FitzHugh-Nagumo model in the stable state, that is set near the Andronov-Hopf…
