Long term stability testing of oxide unicouple thermoelectric modules

2019

Thermoelectric devices based on oxides are good candidates for energy harvesting technologies for use in aggressive conditions where the materials should withstand high temperatures and corrosive environments over prolonged time. This leads to a natural concern for the stability of the electrical contacts, especially on the hot side of the module. In this work, we have assembled several prototype unicouple thermoelectric modules made by pyrolyzed and spark plasma sintered n-type CaMnO3 and p-type Ca3Co4O9 and then tested under different conditions mimicking end-user applications. For baseline experiments we have chosen to use nickel as the contact material in order to show the effect of its…

Carbonyl-functionalized quaterthiophenes: a study of the vibrational Raman and electronic absorption/emission properties guided by theoretical calcul…

2011

This work investigates the evolution of the molecular, vibrational, and optical properties within a family of carbonyl-functionalized quaterthiophenes: 5,5'''-diheptanoyl-2,2':5',2'':5'',2'''-quaterthiophene (1), 5,5'''-diperfluorohexylcarbonyl-2,2':5',2'':5'',2'''-quaterthiophene (2), and 2,7-[bis(5-perfluorohexylcarbonylthien-2-yl)]-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b']-dithiophene-4-one (3). The analysis is performed by Raman and UV/Vis absorption/excitation/fluorescence spectroscopy in combination with density functional calculations. Theoretical calculations show that substitution with carbonyl groups and perfluorohexyl chains induces progressive quinoidization of the π-conjugated backbone in co…

A QM/MM Approach Using the AMOEBA Polarizable Embedding: From Ground State Energies to Electronic Excitations

2016

International audience; A fully polarizable implementation of the hybrid Quantum Mechanics/Molecular Mechanics approach is presented, where the classical environment is described through the AMOEBA polarizable force field. A variational formalism, offering a self-consistent 1 relaxation of both the MM induced dipoles and the QM electronic density is used for ground state energies and extended to electronic excitations in the framework of Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory combined with a state specific response of the classical part. An application to the calculation of the solvatochromism of the pyridinium N-phenolate betaine dye used to define the solvent ET30 scale is presented. Th…

Steering the excited state dynamics of a photoactive yellow protein chromophore analogue with external electric fields

2014

Abstract The first excited state of the Photoactive Yellow Protein chromophore exhibits a strong charge transfer character and the dipole moments of the excited and ground states differ significantly. Furthermore, the excited state charge distribution changes during the isomerization of this chromophore. These observations suggest that external electric fields can be used to control photo-isomerization, providing a new concept for developing photochromic devices, such as e-paper or optical memory. To test this idea, we performed excited state dynamics simulations and static calculations of a PYP chromophore analogue (pCK − ) in an external electric field. By adjusting direction and strength…

The first example of cofacial bis(dipyrrins)

2016

International audience; Two series of cofacial bis(dipyrrins) were prepared and their photophysical properties as well as their bimolecular fluorescence quenching with C-60 were investigated. DFT and TDDFT computations were also performed as a modeling tool to address the nature of the fluorescence state and the possible inter-chromophore interactions. Clearly, there is no evidence for such interactions and the bimolecular quenching of fluorescence, in comparison with mono-dipyrrins, indicates that C-60-bis(dipyrrin) contacts occur from the outside of the "mouth" of the cofacial structure.

Mononuclear Rearrangement of the Z-Phenylhydrazones of Some 3-Acyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles: Effect of Substituents on the Nucleophilic Character of the &gt…

2019

The reaction rates for the mononuclear rearrangement of the Z-phenylhydrazones of 3-acyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles 3a-c into the relevant 2-phenyl-2 H-1,2,3-triazoles (4a-c) have been measured in dioxane/water at different temperatures in a large range of proton concentrations. The occurrence of two different reaction pathways (one uncatalyzed, water assisted, and the other general base catalyzed) has- been observed. The obtained results have been able to furnish information about the effects of the nature of the 3-acyl structure and of the 5-substituents in the 1,2,4-oxadiazole ring on the reactivity of the examined rearrangements: they are well in line with the previsions carried out considering …

Switching of Slow Magnetic Relaxation Dynamics in Mononuclear Dysprosium(III) Compounds with Charge Density

2016

The symmetry around a Dy ion is recognized to be a crucial parameter dictating magnetization relaxation dynamics. We prepared two similar square-antiprismatic complexes, [Dy(LOMe)2(H2O)2](PF6) (1) and Dy(LOMe)2(NO3) (2), where LOMe = [CpCo{P(O)(O(CH3))2}3], including either two neutral water molecules (1) or an anionic nitrate ligand (2). We demonstrated that in this case relaxation dynamics is dramatically affected by the introduction of a charged ligand, stabilizing the easy axis of magnetization along the nitrate direction. We also showed that the application of either a direct-current field or chemical dilution effectively stops quantum tunneling in the ground state of 2, thereby increa…

A polar/π model of interactions explains face-to-face stacked quinoid rings: a case study of the crystal of potassium hydrogen chloranilate dihydrate

2015

International audience; The nature of interactions between face-to-face staggered stacked quinoid rings with pi-systems, observed with a short inter-ring centroid. centroid distance, is analyzed by experimental and theoretical methods. Charge density studies based on X-ray diffraction and DFT calculations, complemented by impedance spectroscopy, were employed to define the electronic and structural characteristics of the quinoid rings responsible for their interactions within the crystal packing. The crystal packing is mainly stabilized by strong electrostatic interactions between the K+ cation and the hydrogen chloranilate anion. The proximity and orientation of the stacked quinoid rings i…

Energetic study of bifurcated hydrogen bonds in secondary structures of salts composed with dicarboxylic acids and ethylamine

2020

Abstract The nature of bifurcated hydrogen bonds prompted us to analyze the energy of supramolecular motifs on the example of new structures of carboxylic acids salts with amines, which guarantee a multitude of such interactions. Experimental and theoretical studies of four dicarboxylic salts with primary amine: ethylammonium succinate hydrate (1), tartrate hydrate (2) phthalate hydrate (3) and terephthalate (4) has been investigated along with study of the strength of interactions between the anions and cations. The complete topological analysis of the charge density for all new structures allowed designation of the estimated Cumulative Dissociation Energy (eCDE).

Enantiomeric Resolution of Asymmetric-Carbon-Free Binuclear Double-Stranded Cobalt(III) Helicates and Their Application as Catalysts in Asymmetric Re…

2018

A series of double-stranded binuclear helicates [Co2(H1)2]4+, [Co2(H2)2]4+, and [Co2(H3)2]4+, derived from monodeprotonated bis-pyridyl hydrazine-based ligands of H21, H22, and H23 with one, two, and three -CH2 spacers, were obtained. These asymmetric-carbon-free racemic helicates were separated into their ΔΔ and ΛΛ enantiomers. The resolved helicates were examined for the first time as enantioselective catalysts in asymmetric benzoylation and nitroaldol reactions.
