This article discusses the prerequisites for the machine translation of sign languages. The topic is complex, including questions relating to technology, interaction design, linguistics and culture. At the moment, despite the affordances provided by the technology, automated translation between signed and spoken languages – or between sign languages – is not possible. In the last decades, the notion of the landscape has been widely expanded. This has led to a meaningless position according to which landscape does not exist because it is everywhere. The essay attempts to balance the useful new amplified conception of landscape. The ideas of Gilles Clement, the fusion of architecture and landscape symptomatically achieved by Alvaro Siza's Leca swimming pools are considered. Finally, focus is given to modern so-called landscape urbanism.

A delay model valid in all the regions of operation of the MOS transistor for the energy-efficient design of MCML gates

This paper presents a novel delay model for MCML circuits valid in all the regions of operation of the MOS transistor, i.e., weak inversion (sub-threshold), moderate inversion (near-threshold) and strong inversion. The proposed delay model was employed to develop an automated methodology for the energy-efficient design of such circuits. The tradeoff that can be realized between energy and delay was investigated. Experiments were performed using different technologies to understand the impact of technology scaling on that tradeoff too. Major results of this study are as follows. Innovative, Translucent and Multi-functional Components for the Building Envelope: technological and performance optimization

The paper describes the actions aimed at the technology and performance optimization of an innovative, multi-functional building component made of precast and pre-stressed glass blocks useful for the construction of sustainable building envelopes able to reduce the energy consumption and to produce clean energy from the sun. The design optimization of different sub-components and the choice of the right materials for guaranteeing their good response in terms of mechanical resistance, thermal and acoustic insulation, light transmission, electricity production, integration with other components, dimensional coordination, are particularly described.
