Towards early risk biomarkers: serum metabolic signature in childhood predicts cardio-metabolic risk in adulthood

AbstractCardiovascular diseases have their origin in childhood. Early biomarkers identifying individuals with increased risk for disease are needed to support early detection and to optimize prevention strategies. By applying machine learning approach on high throughput NMR-based metabolomics data, we identified metabolic predictors of cardiovascular risk in circulation in a cohort of 396 females, followed from childhood (mean age 11.2 years) to early adulthood (mean age 18.1 years). Automated Detection of Optic Disc Location in Retinal Images

This contribution presents an automated method to locate the optic disc in color fundus images. The method uses texture descriptors and a regression based method in order to determine the best circle that fits the optic disc. The best circle is chosen from a set of circles determined with an innovative method, not using the Hough transform as past approaches. An evaluation of the proposed method has been done using a database of 40 images. On this data set, our method achieved 95% success rate for the localization of the optic disc and 70% success rate for the identification of the optic disc contour (as a circle).

Optical Fibre NO2 Sensor Based on Lutetium Bisphthalocyanine in a Mesoporous Silica Matrix

International audience; In this article, we describe a NO2 sensor consisting of a coating based on lutetium bisphthalocyanine (LuPc2) in mesoporous silica. The sensor exploits the absorption spectrum change of this material which strongly and reversibly decreases in contact with NO2. NO2 is measured by following the amplitude change in the reflected spectrum of the coating deposited on the tip of a silica fibre. As diffusion of NO2 in LuPc2 is slow, the response time could be slow.
