Proton-conducting zirconium phosphate/poly(vinyl acetate)/glycerine gel electrolytes

2003

This work reports on a proton gel electrolyte composed of zirconium phosphate (ZP) particles suspended in a poly(vinyl acetate)/glycerine matrix. The material was studied by X-ray powder diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, impedance spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry. It had a proton conductivity of 1–0.1 mS/cm at room temperature and remained stable and transparent up to at least 110 °C; it therefore appears suitable for uses in electrochromic devices. The structure of the ZP powder and of the gel is discussed in terms of water removal from interplanar spaces by heating or exfoliation. It is suggested that an exfoliation of the layered structure of ZP by intercalation of glyce…

Flexible light-emitting electrochemical cells with single-walled carbon nanotube anodes

2016

Abstract In this work, we demonstrate flexible solution processed light emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) which use single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) films as the substrate. The SWCNTs were synthesized by an integrated aerosol method and dry-transferred on the plastic substrates at room temperature. The addition of a screen printed poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) doped with poly (styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) film onto the nanostructured electrode further homogenizes the surface and enlarges the work function, enhancing the hole injection into the active layer. By using an efficient phosphorescent ionic transition metal complex (iTMC) as the active material, efficacies up to 9…

A Magnetostrictive Electric Power Generator for energy harvesting from traffic: Design and experimental verification

2015

In the last decades, the growth in energy demand, the decrease of fossil fuels available in the market and the impact of anthropogenic factors on climate change has given new impulse to research on renewable energy systems, particularly those known as energy harvesting devices (EHDs) [1]. A large number of EHDs have been proposed, using different operating principle [1-4]. Among them, piezoelectric and magnetostrictive seem to be particularly suitable for the application in EHD. In these materials the application of external mechanical stress induces a change in the level of magnetization and therefore an electromotive force (emf) can be generated and collected in order to produce electrica…

Microwave characterization and modeling of packaged HEMTs by a direct extraction procedure at cryogenic temperatures

2004

In the present work we employ a direct extraction procedure to determine small signal equivalent circuit of microwave GaAs FETs by means of scattering (S-) parameter measurements down to cryogenic temperatures. The direct extraction procedure was tested on packaged AlGaAs/InGaAs HEMTs and good agreement between the simulated and measured S-parameters was obtained at different bias and temperature conditions. We employed a properly designed cryogenic set-up operating in our laboratory that allows to perform DC and RF characterization down to 30 K.

Colloidal plasmonic back reflectors for light trapping in solar cells.

2014

A novel type of plasmonic light trapping structure is presented in this paper, composed of metal nanoparticles synthesized in colloidal solution and self-assembled in uniform long-range arrays using a wet-coating method. The high monodispersion in size and spherical shape of the gold colloids used in this work allows a precise match between their measured optical properties and electromagnetic simulations performed with Mie theory, and enables the full exploitation of their collective resonant plasmonic behavior for light-scattering applications. The colloidal arrays are integrated in plasmonic back reflector (PBR) structures aimed for light trapping in thin film solar cells. The PBRs exhib…

Tunable invisibility cloaking by using isolated graphene-coated nanowires and dimers

2017

AbstractWe investigate, both theoretically and numerically, a graphene-coated nano-cylinder illuminated by a plane electromagnetic wave in the far-infrared range of frequencies. We have derived an analytical formula that enables fast evaluation of the spectral window with a substantial reduction in scattering efficiency for a sufficiently thin cylinder. This polarization-dependent effect leads to tunable resonant invisibility that can be achieved via modification of graphene chemical potential monitored by the gate voltage. A multi-frequency cloaking mechanism based on dimer coated nanowires is also discussed in detail.

0.48Tb/s (12x40Gb/s) WDM transmission and high-quality thermo-optic switching in dielectric loaded plasmonics

2012

We demonstrate Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM)-enabled transmission of 480Gb/s aggregate data traffic (12x40Gb/s) as well as high-quality 1x2 thermo-optic tuning in Dielectric-Loaded Surface Plasmon Polariton Waveguides (DLSPPWs). The WDM transmission characteristics have been verified through BER measurements by exploiting the heterointegration of a 60 mu m-long straight DLSPPW on a Silicon-on-Insulator waveguide platform, showing error-free performance for six out of the twelve channels. High-quality thermo-optic tuning has been achieved by utilizing Cycloaliphatic-Acrylate-Polymer as an efficient thermo-optic polymer loading employed in a dual-resonator DLSPPW switching structure, …

Use of RGB digital video analysis to study electrochemical processes involving color changes

2017

Color changes on an electrode surface during the course of electrochemical processes were monitored by in situ digital video recording. The evolution of standard red, green and blue (sRGB) intensity channels extracted from digital images showed a close relationship with the electrochemical processes taking place. In particular, the derivative of the sRGB mean intensity with respect to time (dI−/dt) gave useful insights into the electrochemical mechanism. The standard deviation (std) of the sRGB intensity provided information about the color homogeneity of the studied region on the electrode surface. We selected poly(o-toluidine) electrochromism on a transparent electrode and anodic copper d…

All-optical nonlinear processing of both polarization state and intensity profile for 40 Gbit/s regeneration applications

2011

International audience; In this paper, we report all-optical regeneration of the state of polarization of a 40-Gbit/s return-to-zero telecommunication signal as well as its temporal intensity profile and average power thanks to an easy-to-implement, all-fibered device. In particular, we experimentally demonstrate that it is possible to obtain simultaneously polarization stabilization and intensity profile regeneration of a degraded light beam thanks to the combined effects of counterpropagating four-wave mixing, self-phase modulation and normal chromatic dispersion taking place in a single segment of optical fiber. All-optical regeneration is confirmed by means of polarization and bit-error…
