Photocatalytic thin films of TiO2 formed by a sol-gel process using titanium tetraisopropoxide as the precursor
2008
Abstract Thin TiO 2 films were prepared with the dip-coating technique by using sols deriving from titanium tetraisopropoxide. TiO 2 films were formed on glass substrates previously covered by a SiO 2 layer obtained from a tetraethylortosilicate sol. The films, after a thermal treatment at 673 K, mainly consisted of TiO 2 anatase. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The photoactivity of the various films was tested by using as probe reaction the photo-oxidation of 2-propanol in gas-solid regime. The photoreactivity results indicated that the TiO 2 films were efficient for degrading 2-propanol und…
Original Approach to Synthesize TiO2/ZnO Hybrid Nanosponges Used as Photoanodes for Photoelectrochemical Applications
2021
[EN] In the present work, TiO2/ZnO hybrid nanosponges have been synthesized for the first time. First, TiO2 nanosponges were obtained by anodization under hydrodynamic conditions in a glycerol/water/NH4F electrolyte. Next, in order to achieve the anatase phase of TiO2 and improve its photocatalytic behaviour, the samples were annealed at 450 degrees C for 1 h. Once the TiO2 nanosponges were synthesized, TiO2/ZnO hybrid nanosponges were obtained by electrodeposition of ZnO on TiO2 nanosponges using different temperatures, times, and concentrations of zinc nitrate (Zn(NO3)(2)). TiO2/ZnO hybrid nanosponges were used as photoanodes in photoelectrochemical water splitting tests. The results indi…

Photodegradation kinetics of aniline, 4-ethylaniline, and 4-chloroaniline in aqueous suspension of polycrystalline titanium dioxide
2000
The photodegradation process of aniline, 4-ethylaniline, and 4-chloroaniline in aqueous suspension of irradiated TiO2 (anatase) powder has been investigated. A batch photoreactor with immersed lamp irradiating in the near-UV region has been used for carrying out the reactivity experiments. For each substrate the influence of the initial concentration of organic compound and of pH on the degradation rate has been investigated. The main intermediates and the end products have been identified and determined, the total mass balance being satisfied. The kinetic modelling of the series of reactions occurring in the system has been satisfactorily carried out with a Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate law. T…
Electrochemical Investigation of Lithium Intercalation in MOCVD Derived Nanostructured Anatase/Rutile TiO2
2011
In this paper we report on the lithium reversible storage in titanium dioxide (TiO2) prepared by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Electrochemical properties in terms of lithium reversible insertion depend on the deposited microstructure. For thick films deposited on silicon wafer electrochemical activity of the anatase type of TiO2 is registered in the potential range 1.8-2.1 V vs. Li. For thinner films the intercalation reaction takes place in two potential ranges: 1.8-2.1 V vs. Li and below 1.4 V vs. Li. The second electroactivity range is attributed to lithium insertion into rutile. We found that the decrease of the lower potential limit (0.5 V instead of commonly used 1 …
RETRACTED ARTICLE: Hemodynamics, intra-mucosal pH and regulators of circulation during perioperative epidural analgesia
2000
Scope and Limitations of Baird's Theory on Triplet State Aromaticity: Application to the Tuning of Singlet–Triplet Energy Gaps in Fulvenes
2007
Utilizing Baird's theory on triplet state aromaticity, we show that the singlet-triplet energy gaps (DeltaE(ST)) of pentafulvenes are easily varied through substitution by as much as 36 kcal mol(-1). This exploits the fact that fulvenes act as aromatic chameleons in which the dipoles reverse on going from the singlet ground state (S(0)) to the lowest pipi* triplet state (T1); thus, their electron distributions are adapted so as to achieve some aromaticity in both states. The results are based on quantum chemical calculations with the OLYP density functional theory method and the CASPT2 ab initio method, as well as spectroscopic determination of DeltaE(ST) by triplet sensitization. The findi…
Surface charge fine tuning of reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange type mixed-mode stationary phases for milder elution conditions.
2015
A series of new mixed-mode reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange (RP/WAX) phases have been synthesized by immobilization of N-undecenyl-3-α-aminotropane onto thiol-modified silica gel by thiol-ene click chemistry and subsequent introduction of acidic thiol-endcapping functionalities of different type and surface densities. Click chemistry allowed to adjust a controlled surface concentration of the RP/WAX ligand in such a way that a sufficient quantity of residual thiols remained unmodified which have been capped by thiol click with either 3-butenoic acid or allylsulfonic acid as co-ligands. In another embodiment, performic acid oxidation of N-undecenyl-3-α-aminotropane-derivatized thiol-modifi…
Borate-driven gatelike scaffolding using mesoporous materials functionalised with saccharides.
2009
We report the development of an MCM-41 mesoporous support that is functionalised with saccharides at the pore outlets and contains the dye [Ru(bipy)(3)](2+) in the pores (solid S1; bipy = 2,2'-bipyridyl). For this hybrid system, the inhibition of mass transport of the dye from the pore voids to the bulk solution in the presence of borate is demonstrated in water at neutral pH. The formation of the corresponding boroester derivative is related to the selective reaction of borate with the appended saccharides. This control is selective and only anion borate, among several anions and cations, can act as a molecular tap and inhibit the delivery of the entrapped guest. Additionally, the S1-borat…
N-Propyl-N′-2-pyridylurea-modified silica as mixed-mode stationary phase with moderate weak anion exchange capacity and pH-dependent surface charge r…
2018
Herein, we present a novel silica-based stationary phase modified with N-propyl-N'-2-pyridylurea selector. Due to the weakly basic properties of the pyridine selector and the presence of residual silanols after selector immobilization, a zwitterionic surface with a pI observed at approximately pH 5.5 was measured by electrophoretic light scattering in pH-dependent ζ-potential determinations. The capability of the new N-propyl-N'-2-pyridylurea-modified silica to serve as mixed-mode stationary phase was investigated. For this purpose, it was characterized under RP and HILIC conditions using test mixtures. Subsequent classification of this stationary phase in comparison to in-house and commerc…
