Historical Origins of the nine-point conic -- The Contribution of Eugenio Beltrami

In this paper, we examine the evolution of a specific mathematical problem, i.e. the nine-point conic, a generalisation of the nine-point circle due to Steiner. We will follow this evolution from Steiner to the Neapolitan school (Trudi and Battaglini) and finally to the contribution of Beltrami that closed this journey, at least from a mathematical point of view (scholars of elementary geometry, in fact, will continue to resume the problem from the second half of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century). The effect of geographical distance between candidate and voter on vote-likelihood in the UK is essentially untested. In systems where constituency representatives vie for local inhabitants' support in elections, candidates living closer to a voter would be expected to have a greater probability of receiving that individual's support, other things being equal. The “λ-medial axis”

Medial axis is known to be unstable for nonsmooth objects. For an open set O, we define the weak feature size, wfs, minimum distance between Oc and the critical points of the function distance to Oc. We introduce the "lambda-medial axis" Mλ of O, a subset of the medial axis of O which captures the homotopy type of O when λ < wfs. We show that, at least for some "regular" values of λ, Mλ remains stable under Hausdorff distance perturbations of Oc.

This paper aims to enrich the behavioral theory of international business strategyby investigating how CEO hubris (i.e., excess pride and confidence) affects inter-national strategic choices, that is, location selection, entry timing, and modes ofentry into the target market. In the context of intercultural online communication, certain dimensions of ICT we might call “figures sensibles” (Boutaud 2006) can be critically useful to understand co-construction, especially when these dimensions are also constitutive of an educational context. Thus, transparency, performance and conviviality help us interpret what can be called collaborative online interaction. Dispositive memory thrives on these dimensions and completes them. It explains in part the continuity of socially constructed identity of the community in question. It is the community aspect which in our context imposes itself despite cultural differences.
Choosing Who You Are: The Structure and Behavioral Effects of Revealed Identification Preferences

Differences in individuals’ social identity have recently been shown to explain differences in behavior. But where do differences in social identity come from? Theory claims that identification allows people to affect their social identity by choosing who they are. Accordingly, this paper treats social identity as a choice and analyzes its behavioral effects. We find identification to be systematically related to behavioral heterogeneity in group-specific social preferences. Intrinsic Hardy–Orlicz spaces of conformal mappings

We define a new type of Hardy-Orlicz spaces of conformal mappings on the unit disk where in place of the value |f(x)| we consider the intrinsic path distance between f(x) and f(0) in the image domain. We show that if the Orlicz function is doubling then these two spaces are actually the same, and we give an example when the intrinsic Hardy-Orlicz space is strictly smaller.
Uniform continuity of quasiconformal mappings and conformal deformations

We prove that quasiconformal maps onto domains satisfying a suitable growth condition on the quasihyperbolic metric are uniformly continuous even when both domains are equipped with internal metric. The improvement over previous results is that the internal metric can be used also in the image domain. We also extend this result for conformal deformations of the euclidean metric on the unit ball of R n \mathbb {R}^n .
