Internet and Mathematic Education (E-Learning objects and tools for Mathematics Education)
2011
This paper analyzes some e-learning objects and didactics tools for improving mathematics education. The learning objects and tools analyzed are Videos, Applet Java, Geogebra, Wolfram|Alpha with his Widgets, Google Spreadsheets and Wiris. The analysis has been based on the parameters considered more suitable for didactics of mathematics. Such parameters are: interactivity, shareability, availability, applicability and feasibility. The paper presents a brief description of how the didactics is changing with internet, in particularly the didactics of the mathematics. It then shows the objects and tools selected with some application examples. Finally, it illustrates an comparison of the objec…
Geografie digitali - Spazi e socialità
2018
Theorising about barriers to open e-learning systems in public administrations
2018
Abstract Barriers to the general use of e-learning technology are known across various contexts. Despite increasing efforts to clarify the range of these barriers, few efforts have been made to advance the theorising about them and, thus, to answer why and how they unfold. This study is motivated to overcome this unaddressed problem and develops a process model based on adaptive structuration theory (AST) and the punctuated socio-technical change model (PSIC). It represents how barriers unfold between actors, technology, and organisational properties in public administrations. The PaSIC model provides a new perspective on how critical incidents drive the emergence and progress of barriers t…
Introducing Online Learning Communities to Tomorrow's Teachers Case Study of eTwinning Teachers Training Pilot Project 2014/15
2015
Educational trends in e-Learning are ever-changing and this has brought into discussion numerous solutions and platforms to encourage the use of ICT in schools. The eTwinning action was given start in 2005 as one of the principal actions of the European Commission's e-Learning Programme. It is now a part of 'Erasmus+ 2014-2020' and has gradually been expanding all over Europe providing both teachers and students with innovative and creative ideas, learning/teaching experience, multimedia applications and interactive tools. This research paper aims to introduce eTwinning Online Learning Platform as one of the biggest communities for schools in Europe and discuss University of Palermo's invol…
Comparison of Interactive Teaching in Online and Offline Platforms among Dental Undergraduates
2022
In recent years, the educational system has focused more on the holistic development of an individual. Modern technology has changed the educational environment to provide students with better academic opportunities. Along with the education system, teaching techniques and learning tools have also changed with digital evolution. This research was undertaken to assess the academic performance of interactive teaching methods in offline and online platforms in Periodontics among BDS undergraduates at a dental college in India. This prospective study was conducted among 49 students: Group I (n = 24, online class through Zoom) and Group II (n = 25, offline classes). The subject was divided into …
A Conversational Agent Based on a Conceptual Interpretation of a Data Driven Semantic Space
2005
In this work we propose an interpretation of the LSA framework which leads to a data-driven “conceptual” space creation suitable for an “intuitive” conversational agent. The proposed approach allows overcoming the limitations of traditional, rule-based, chat-bots, leading to a more natural dialogue.
Impact of the knowledge society in the university and in scientific communication
2014
Over the last two decades, as a result of the introduction and intensive use of technologies for information and general knowledge, especially from the internet, the university is living in a process of complete transformation that affects it´s academic and organizational structures as well as the conception of educational methodology. The ICTs have demonstrated a need to establish coherent institutional strategies in their use and application, along with the possibility to expand the sphere of institutional action, in regards to general access to higher education. All of this shows an existing change from a model of education based on the transmission of knowledge, that was rather limited …
Itinerarios De M-Learning en La Educación Universitaria
2015
In recent years, mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops allow immediate connection and content exchange among people "anytime, anywhere" (Park S.Y., et al. 2012). 'Ubiquitous learning’ becomes very important in higher and university education also in order to emphasize the educational paths’ design and maximize students’ learning opportunities. At this regard, it‘s interesting to consider the assumptions of the connectivism theory (Siemens, 2005) as a theoretical reference for the e-learning design. For verifying these assumptions and clarifying whether Italian teachers and students share them, we conducted this research. This empirical study aims to grasp what type of mobile…
