From Planning to Management of Cultural Heritage Sites: Controversies and Conflicts Between Unesco WHL Management Plans and Local Spatial Planning in…

2014

The paper investigates the relationship between the preservation of cultural heritage and planning in UNESCO World Heritage List (WHL) sites, with special reference to the relation be- tween Management Plans and other (local and regional) planning instruments and policies able to influence the promotion of sustainable and responsible development. This will be explored through a case study related to South-Eastern Sicilian UNESCO sites (in particular Syracuse). The analysis of this case study will point out the challenge of integrating different management and planning regimes - which mainly refer to a performative model - in a (still) very conformative planning sys- tem. The paper will show…

The research is oriented towards the determination of personal and environmental factors that provide to explain several aspects of the construct. We administered a test battery to analyze: Scholastic Climate; Personal and Collective Efficacy; Organizational Commitment, Involvement, and Job Satisfaction. Findings confirm the constant influence of personal efficacy on determining of the level of job involvement and satisfaction. If teachers’ personal efficacy convictions play a significant role on stamp their scholastic perceptions…

Efficacy of swm appliance in the expression of first-, second- and third-order information in Class I and Class II

2019

Background To assess the efficacy of a multibracket appliance-Straight-wire Mirabella (SWM) prescription-in terms of achieving the ideal first-, second- and third-order values proposed by Andrews. Material and methods A total sample of 46 Caucasian subjects was divided into two groups: 23 with class I malocclusion (Group 1), and 23 with class II malocclusion (Group 2). The treatment protocol involved fixed multibracket appliances-SWM prescription-for both groups, with the addition of class II elastics for Group 2. Values for ΔU1-PP, ΔIMPA, in-out, tip and torque were measured on digital scans, and the results obtained were compared with the ideal values proposed by Andrews. Results Statisti…

Child consumption of fruit and vegetables: the roles of child cognitions and parental feeding practices

2011

AbstractObjectiveTo examine the roles of child cognitions and parental feeding practices in explaining child intentions and behaviour regarding fruit and vegetable consumption.DesignCross-sectional surveys among pre-adolescent children and their parents.SettingThe child questionnaire included measures of fruit and vegetable consumption and cognitions regarding fruit and vegetable consumption as postulated by the Attitude–Social Influence–Self-Efficacy (ASE) model. The parent questionnaire included measures of parental feeding practices derived from the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire (CFPQ).SubjectsIn total, 963 parents and 796 students in grades 5 and 6 from eighteen schools …

Clinical efficacy of a computerised device (STA™) and a pressure syringe (VarioJect INTRA™) for intraligamentary anaesthesia.

2014

Introduction To evaluate the impact of experience whilst using different devices for intraligamentary anaesthesia, dental students tested clinical anaesthetic efficacy of a mechanical (PDL-S) and a computer-controlled (CCLAD) application system in restorative patients. Material and methods In a prospective study, 41 Patients in need of restorative treatment in lower posterior mandible were randomised into three groups (PDL-S: teeth n = 22; CCLAD: teeth n = 20; inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB): teeth n = 20). Dental last year students conducted anaesthesia and dental treatment. Primary objectives were differences in pain during treatment [numeric rating scale (NRS)] as well as in anaesth…

Non-surgical management of chronic periodontitis with two local drug delivery agents-A comparative study

2011

Background: The selective removal or inhibition of pathogenic microbes with locally delivered antimicrobials when combined with scaling and root planing is often an effective approach for the managment of chronic periodontitis. Aim: To compare the clinical efficacy of tetracycline fibers and a xanthan based chlorhexidine gel in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Methods and materials: Thirty systemically healthy patients in the age group of 30-50 years suffering from generalized chronic moderate periodontitis were selected. For each subject, two experimental sites were chosen that had probing depth >5mm and were located in symmetric quadrants and the sites were randomized at split mout…

Comparison of clot lysis activity and biochemical properties of originator tenecteplase (Metalyse®) with those of an alleged biosimilar

2014

The bioengineered tissue plasminogen activator tenecteplase is an important treatment modality of acute myocardial infarction recommended by international guidelines. Following introduction of originator tenecteplase (brand names Metalyse(®) and TNKase(®)), a "biosimilar" tenecteplase became available for commercial use in India under the brand name Elaxim(®) in the absence of Indian biosimilar guidelines which came into force from September 15th, 2012. Based on a report of biochemical and fibrinolytical differences between Metalyse and Elaxim, we have systematically compared them in a range of routine quality testing assays. As compared to Metalyse, Elaxim exhibited less clot lysis activit…

A Vaccine Construction against COVID-19-Associated Mucormycosis Contrived with Immunoinformatics-Based Scavenging of Potential Mucoralean Epitopes

2022

Mucormycosis is a group of infections, caused by multiple fungal species, which affect many human organs and is lethal in immunocompromised patients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the current wave of mucormycosis is a challenge to medical professionals as its effects are multiplied because of the severity of COVID-19 infection. The variant of concern, Omicron, has been linked to fatal mucormycosis infections in the US and Asia. Consequently, current postdiagnostic treatments of mucormycosis have been rendered unsatisfactory. In this hour of need, a preinfection cure is needed that may prevent lethal infections in immunocompromised individuals. This study proposes a potential vaccine constru…
