Protective and Educational Effects of Physical Activity Practice on Mental Health in Young Age during COVID-19 Lockdown

2022

Background: The restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic have modified the lifestyle of young people, worsening their mental health. Although some countries were allowed to practice outdoor physical activity (PA) in cases of lockdown, the PA level in the general population decreased. The current study aims to assess the differences in fear of COVID-19, anxiety, neuroticism, and general self-efficacy between university students who practiced PA during the second wave of lockdown and those who did not practice any PA. Methods: The sample consisted of 276 university students (176 females, 63.8%; mean age: 22.13, SD: ±3.94) who answered an online questionnaire detecting life habits …

Acute arterial stiffness, testosterone and force production responses and recovery from different combined strength and endurance loading models

2017

Much of the differences between strength (S) and endurance (E) exercise can be attributed to the contrasting endocrinological and molecular responses between the two exercise modes. From the current literature, it seems that aortic arterial stiffness, a reliable cardiovascular mortality predictor, also responds differently to these two modes of exercise. It is thus important to understand the acute responses that combined exercise loads may invoke, as acute responses are known to drive chronic adaptations. Furthermore, testosterone has been cited as a key hormone in cardiovascular protection and its effects may mediate blood flow and hemodynamics. Currently, there are very few studies inves…

Aquatic cycling—What do we know? A scoping review on head-out aquatic cycling

2017

Over the past few years, aquatic cycling has become a trending fitness activity. However, the literature has not been reviewed exhaustively. Therefore, using scoping review methodology, the aim of this review was to explore the current state of the literature concerning aquatic cycling. This study specifically focused on study designs, populations and outcomes. A comprehensive search of seven databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, Cinahl, Embase, PEDro,Web of Science, WorldCat) was conducted up to 30th September 2016. GoogleScholar, World Cat, ResearchGate, specific aquatic therapy websites and aquatic therapy journals were searched to identify additional literature. Full-text publications in English,…

Long-term physical activity modifies automatic visual processing

2019

Electrophysiologically registered visual mismatch negativity (vMMN) is known to represent automatic visual processing in human visual cortex. Since physical activity (PA) is generally beneficial to cerebrovascular function, we wanted to find out if automatic visual processing is affected by PA. We investigated the connection between long-term leisure-time PA and precognitive visual processing in 32 healthy young males. Participants were divided into active (n = 16) and inactive (n = 16) group according to their leisure-time PA records from the past three years. vMMN was recorded with electroencephalogram using passive oddball paradigm with visual bars. Standard (90%) and deviant (10%) stimu…

The Effects of Cold Water Immersion on the Recovery of Drop Jump Performance and Mechanics : A Pilot Study in Under-20 Soccer Players

2020

Cold water immersion (CWI) is a popular method used for enhancing recovery from exercise. However, the efficacy of this approach is inconclusive and studies investigating variables contributing to overall performance are scarce. Additionally, few studies have investigated the recovery of stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) performance after a fatiguing SSC task. The SSC occurs naturally in human locomotion and induces a recovery pattern different from isolated muscle contractions (e.g., pure eccentric exercise). Therefore, the main aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a single CWI on jumping performance and mechanics after exhaustive SSC exercise. On a sledge apparatus, 10 male un…

The effect of aquatic exercise on symptoms, function, body composition and cartilage in knee osteoarthritis

2016

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease associated with pain and loss of functional capacity. The management of knee OA is multifaceted and covers the whole OA continuum from injury prevention to the end stage of the disease. Recently, specific focus has been on preventing the progression of cartilage degeneration and avoiding loss of function in the early phase of the disease via the provision of exercise interventions. Aquatic exercise is a popular but under-researched exercise option. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the role of aquatic exercise in the management of knee OA, focusing especially the effect it evokes on both functional capaci…

Inspiratory Muscle Strength and Cardiorespiratory Fitness Association With Health-Related Quality of Life in Healthy Older Adults

2021

The main purpose of this study was to explore similarities and differences in the association between two capabilities affecting the cardiorespiratory system (overall and multifactorial cardiorespiratory fitness and inspiratory muscle strength) and the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), in a group of active healthy seniors. Sixty-five individuals (age, 73.01 ± 5.27 years; 53 women) who participated regularly in a multicomponent training program completed the EuroQol 5D-5L questionnaire, the 6-min walking test (6MWT), and the maximum inspiratory pressure test (MIP). Non-parametric correlations (Spearman's rho) were conducted to analyze the association between HRQoL indices (EQindex and …

Nauczanie składni a rozwijanie sprawności tworzenia tekstu. W stronę metodyki - diagnoza

2018

We współczesnych podręcznikach w części poświęconej składni dominuje metodyka rozproszona w postaci kolekcji różnego typu ćwiczeń, z prz…
