Evaluating the Effectiveness of Forest Crop to Mitigate Erosion Using a Sediment Delivery Distributed Model
1998
In this paper sediment yield data, measured from 1978 to 1997 in a small experimental Calabrian basin reafforested with Eucalyptus trees (Eucalyptus occidentalis Engl.), and RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) coupled with a sediment delivery distributed model are used to evaluate the antierosive effects of this forest cover. At first, the soil loss measureinents carried out in two experimental plots, located in the basin, are used to evaluate the crop and management factor C of RUSLE far Eucalyptus coppice. The reliability of the selected C factor value is verified by comparing, at an event scale, the measured and the calculated sediment yield values at the basin outlet. Then, a M…
Modeling cost-effectiveness and health gains of a âuniversalâ versus âprioritizedâ hepatitis C virus treatment policy in a real-life cohort
2017
We evaluated the cost-effectiveness of two alternative direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment policies in a real-life cohort of hepatitis C virusâinfected patients: policy 1, âuniversal,â treat all patients, regardless of fibrosis stage; policy 2, treat only âprioritizedâ patients, delay treatment of the remaining patients until reaching stage F3. A liver disease progression Markov model, which used a lifetime horizon and health care system perspective, was applied to the PITER cohort (representative of Italian hepatitis C virusâinfected patients in care). Specifically, 8,125 patients naive to DAA treatment, without clinical, sociodemographic, or insurance restrictions, were us…
Of Friends and Foes in Organizations: A Theoretical Perspective Upon Performance at Work
2014
Abstract The present paper highlights, from a theoretical perspective, the main challenges which aim work performance, inside meta- analytical research studies in organizations, focusing, especially, on factors and organizational concepts, directly related to performance and their relations within. Results show that, in most cases, human resources oriented management resides in an increase of performance at work. In this manner, team effectiveness, group size and proactive behavior determine and influence the levels of work performance, from a positive perspective, whilst turnover is widely associated with a negative view.
Combined TL and 10B-alanine ESR dosimetry for BNCT
2004
The dosimetric technique described in this paper is based on electron spin resonance (ESR) detectors using an alanine-boric compound acid enriched with 1 0 B, and beryllium oxide thermoluminescent (TL) detectors; with this combined dosimetry, it is possible to discriminate the doses due to thermal neutrons and gamma radiation in a mixed field. Irradiations were carried out inside the thermal column of a TRIGA MARK II water-pool-type research nuclear reactor, also used for Boron Neutron Capture therapy (BNCT) applications, with thermal neutron fluence from 10 9 to 10 1 4 n t h cm - 2 . The ESR dosemeters using the alanine-boron compound indicated ESR signals about 30-fold stronger than those…
Dose calculation in biological samples in a mixed neutron-gamma field at the TRIGA reactor of the University of Mainz
2010
To establish Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) for non-resectable liver metastases and for in vitro experiments at the TRIGA Mark II reactor at the University of Mainz, Germany, it is necessary to have a reliable dose monitoring system. The in vitro experiments are used to determine the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of liver and cancer cells in our mixed neutron and gamma fi eld. We work with alanine detectors in combination with Monte Carlo simulations, where we can measure and characterize the dose. To verify our calculations we perform neutron fl ux measurements using gold foil activation and pin-diodes . Material and methods . When L- α -alanine is irradiated with ionizing …
EPR DOSIMETRY IN A MIXED NEUTRON AND GAMMA RADIATION FIELD
2004
Suitability of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy for criticality dosimetry was evaluated for tooth enamel, mannose and alanine pellets during the 'international intercomparison of criticality dosimetry techniques' at the SILENE reactor held in Valduc in June 2002, France. These three materials were irradiated in neutron and gamma-ray fields of various relative intensities and spectral distributions in order to evaluate their neutron sensitivity. The neutron response was found to be around 10% for tooth enamel, 45% for mannose and between 40 and 90% for alanine pellets according their type. According to the IAEA recommendations on the early estimate of criticality accident a…
INTERNAL AUDIT: DEFINING, OBJECTIVES, FUNCTIONS AND STAGES
2010
This article aims, through a detailed presentation as to provide clarification for a better understanding of what internal audit definition, objectives, functions and stages of its development mean. It is also exposed a brief history about the emergence and development of internal audit and regulatory framework. I also plan to linking theory and practice by reference to documents used: both the evidence considered and especially those prepared by the auditors in connection with the performance audit and its use in the audit report.
Tehokkuuden subjektiivinen konstruointi julkishallinnon työntekijöiden puheessa – organisaatioestetiikka viitekehyksenä
2020
This study examines the employees’ everyday experiences at work. The goal is to encourage the emancipation from the limitations of rationality cultivating an aesthetic understanding of organizations. It seeks to answer how organization members construct their experiences of efficiency based on the dualism between aesthetic and rationality and how are these constructions related. This study also seeks to ansewer what kind of dynamics discourses on effectiviness deliver and maintain. The empirical data is obtained by interviews with public sector employees and interpreted using deconstructive analysis presented by David Boje. Based on the research interviews the strong reliance on rationality…
Consumption behavior of eco-friendly products and applications of ICT innovation
2021
The purchase of eco-friendly products is encouraged by the governments due to its contributions to the sustainable development of the environment. It is therefore important to examine factors influencing the purchase of eco-friendly products. Based on the attitude-behavior-context (ABC) theory, this paper constructs a conceptual model, which explores how a consumer’s perceived effectiveness affects individuals’ purchase of eco-friendly products. In details, this paper attempts to examine the mediating role of consumption attitude of eco-friendly products, as well as the moderating effect of applications of information and communication technologies (ICT) innovation. Moreover, by building a …
Antecedents of daily team job crafting
2017
This study investigated potential antecedents of team job crafting defined as the extent to which team members engage together in increasing (social and structural) job resources and challenges, and decreasing hindering job demands. Mindful of the teamwork literature, we hypothesized that individual employee factors (self-efficacy for teamwork, daily affect), team features (team cohesion, climate) and the organizational context of teams (engaging leadership and organizational resources for teamwork) relate positively to daily team job crafting behaviour. Data were collected among 46 multi-professional rehabilitation teams whose members completed two daily surveys after their weekly meetings…
