Nurses' Perspectives on In-Home Monitoring of Elderlies's Motion Pattern

In-home monitoring systems have been proposed to support aging in place and facilitate home care service. Through a qualitative approach the study explores nurses' existing challenges and perspectives of an in-home monitoring system. Results indicate that nurses base care decisions on multiple, and sometimes, unreliable information sources. However, access to information about elderlies' physical motion could support the care planning process by reducing ambiguity and raising attention. Hence, a simple and affordable system that largely relies on nurses to interpret the sensed data could bring additional value. peerReviewed

Dans cette étude, nous mesurons les discriminations dans l’accès au logement dans le GrandNouméa, selon l’origine ethnique, en distinguant les origines kanak et européennes, et selon lequartier de résidence. Entre octobre 2015 et février 2016, nous avons répondu à 342 annonces enprésentant 4 candidats à la location pour chaque annonce, soit 1368 réponses à des annoncesimmobilières. Deux de nos candidats signalent par leur patronyme leur origine kanak, deuxsignalent une origine européenne. Methods The study group is yet represented by 33 patients: 17 males and 16 females (median age 76, range 70–89). The location of cancer was respectively: 5 (15, 15%) in the rectum, 15 (45, 45%) in the left colon, 11 (33, 33%) in the right colon, 1 (3, 3%) in the transverse colon, 1 (3, 3%) synchronous in the caecum and the sigmoid colon. The associated diseases observed were: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease arterial vasculopathy.
Derivation and validation of a novel bleeding risk score for elderly patients with venous thromboembolism on extended anticoagulation

SummaryExisting clinical scores do not perform well in predicting bleeding in elderly patients with acute venous thromboembolism (VTE). We sought to derive an easy-to-use clinical score to help physicians identify elderly patients with VTE who are at high-risk of bleeding during extended anticoagulation (>3 months). Our derivation sample included 743 patients aged ≥65 years with VTE who were enrolled in a prospective multicenter cohort study. Abstract The European Society of Hypertension recommend the following main rules for treatment of hypertension in elderly and octogenarians: 1) In elderly hypertensives with SBP ≥ 160 mmHg there is solid evidence to recommend reducing SBP to between 140 mmHg and 150 mmHg. 2) In fit elderly patients less than 80 years old treatment may be considered at SBP ≥ 140 mmHg with a target SBP < 140 mmHg if treatment is well tolerated. 3) In fit individuals older than 80 years with an initial SBP ≥ 160 mmHg it is recommended to reduce SBP to between 150 mmHg and 140 mmHg. 4) In frail elderly patients, it is recommended to base treatment decisions on comorbidity and carefully monitor the effects of tr…

Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association between heart failure (HF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in tertiary care centers using the clinical records of patients enrolled in internal medicine departments.Patients and methods: We used the clinical records of 1380 elderly patients to identify patients with a history of HF and CKD using admission ICD codes and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) formulas.
