Intraoperative ultrasound-assisted approach for endoscopic treatment of vesicoureteral reflux in children

Purpose Despite minimal invasiveness and high success rate, guidelines still prescribe voiding Cystourethrogram (VCUG) after endoscopic treatment for vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in children. The aim of this paper was to analyze whether intraoperative ultrasound (IO-US) could improve surgical accuracy and perioperative counseling, thus potentially decreasing the need for postoperative VCUG. Methods We selected children treated for moderate to high grade VUR, renal scarring or repeated infections under antibiotic prophylaxis from January to December 2015. Abstract Background: The aim of this study was to determine whether patency rates differ with respect to the material, design, and surface texture of 3 different plastic stents. Methods: A total of 120 patients (median age 70.5 years; interquartile range 62-78 years) with malignant mid or distal bile duct strictures, seen between March 1996 and May 1999, were prospectively randomized to receive a 10F polyurethane stent, a Teflon Tannenbaum stent, or a hydrophilic hydromer-coated polyurethane stent. Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory process of the pancreatic gland that eventually may lead to a severe systemic inflammatory response. A key event in pancreatic damage is the intracellular activation of NF-κB and zymogens, involving also calcium, cathepsins, pH disorders, autophagy, and cell death, particularly necrosis. Il trattamento endoscopico delle pseudocisti pancreatiche.

Aim: the Authors report their experience about the endoscopic treatment of pancreatic pseudocysts (PP). Patients and methods: report of 10 cases; evaluation of effectiveness, morbidity and mortality of treatment. Setting: Section of General and Thoracic Surgery, AOUP “Paolo Giaccone”, University of Palermo. Procedure: endoscopic drainage was performed in all 10 patients, with 2 cysto-gastrostomy, 5 cysto-duodenostomy and 3 trans-papillary cystic drainage. Results: 100% successful; one case of bleeding post-procedure (10%), one case of sepsis (10%) and one case of stricture of fistula between PP and duodenum.
