New Records of Sceliotrachelinae (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) in Iran
2020
The hymenopteran family Platygastridae is a large group of parasitic wasps. A survey was carried out on the subfamily Sceliotrachelinae (Hym.: Platygastridae) in East Azerbaijan and Fars provinces of Iran. The genus Fidobia Ashmead and three species, Allotropa conventus Maneval, Fidiobia hofferi Kozlov and Isolia mongolica (Kozlov) are newly recorded from Iran. Illustrations of the morphological characteristics and their geographical distribution are presented.

Studio sul complesso parassitario di Prays oleae (Bernard) e sui livelli di parassitizzazione in un oliveto biologico della Sicilia occidentale.
2009
Study on the parasitoid complex of Prays oleae (Bernard) and parasitism levels in an organic olive orchard in western Sicily (Italy). Prays oleae is a serious pest of the olive tree in the Mediterranean basin. This phytophagous infests fruits (carpophagous generation) and leaves (phyllophagous generation). In cases of high population densities crop losses, caused mainly by fruit drop, may be heavy. The aim of this work was to investigate on 1) parasitoid species living on P. oleae, 2) their incidence parasitoid complex, 3) parasitism levels and 4)the influence on the fruit fall. Observations were conducted in an organic olive grove near Contessa Entellina (PA) (Sicily, Italy) (37.43.44 N; 1…
Pristionchus sp. (Rhabditida: Diplogastridae) from Italian populations of Anoplophora chinensis Forster (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae).
2009
Priostonchus sp. n. (Rhabditida: Diplogastridae) is described from a population of Citrus Longhorn Beetles. Alive adults of this Cerambycid were collected from Acer saccharinum trees at Assago and Parabiago (Villastanza), two localities near Milan (Italy). The natural occurrence of the entomogenous nematode in the beetle was not frequent and widespread in the study area. Preliminary laboratory infectivity tests highlight the potential parasitic nature of the nematode. However, it was not successfully maintained in storage and culture. The diplogasterid Pristionchus sp. has rather complicate systematic thus a biomolecular analysis based on DNA is necessary for more specific identification an…

Considerations on systematics of the Phytoseiidae (Acari: Mesostigmata), with definition of a new species group and description of a new species
2015
The authors debate some aspects of the classification of the Phytoseiidae, especially the subfamily Typhlodrominae. Within this taxon, the rhenanus group is the most numerous species group of Typhlodromus (Anthoseius), with 206 nominal species. Detailed observation of morphological characters of the species in this group showed a considerable variation, suggesting the presence of different natural lineages. The discovery of the new species here described, Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) sandrae Ragusa & Tsolakis n. sp., allowed the definition of the new porathi species group. Definition of the new species group, a dichotomous key as well as the description of the new species are given.
Tomato leaf miner Tuta absoluta (Meyrick,1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) The old and new challenge
2014
The term Phytosanitary exists within many of the modern and old scientific terms such as: organic farming, plant protection, integrated pest management, national and international movement of plant germplasm, biosecurity, good agricultural practices and others. There are many aspects within those related terms. All those terms have common interests of which the pests' risk be avoided and the environmental health is achieved. Consequently preventive measures, precaution measures and effective testing procedures are required. The study problem is the pest Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), the Tomato leaf miner, this pest is one of the most devastating pests affecting T…

Susceptibility of ostrinia nubilalis to bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki
2003
Baseline susceptibility of European corn borer larvae, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner), to a commercial formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki was determined for different strains in 7 geographic locations in the corn area of North Italy (Po Valley). For the bioassay 7 different doses, raised on a meredic diet, were used and the data was analysed with the Probit analysis. Differences in the susceptibility among the northern Italian populations of O. nubilalis were recorded, which can be attributed to natural variability. The ECB collected near Como and Torino was the most susceptible, respectively with LC50 of 0.23 and 0.57 mg/ml. The most tolerant ones were the larvae coming from …
Susceptibility to BT of wild lepidopteran species in Nature Reserve in Sicily
2010
A wide range of crop plants and trees have been transformed with genes derived from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) to express insecticidal proteins (insect-resistant Bt plants). Whereas the adoption of Bt plants constitutes one of the most common uses of transgenic plants in agriculture, the environmental benefits and risks remain an issue. To preserve the natural reserve and their fauna UE proposed that in future the Member State specify a minimum separation distance of metres between fields of GM plants and nature reserves or to forbid cultivation of GM plant in particular area based on scientific data. Natural reserve in Sicily have many endemism and rare species so next …
