Correct thermodynamic forces in Tsallis Thermodynamics: connection with Hill Nanothermodynamics

The equivalence between Tsallis Thermodynamics and Hill Nanothermodynamics is established. The correct thermodynamic forces in Tsallis thermodynamics are pointed out. Through this connection we also find a general expression for the entropic index $q$ which we illustrate with two physical examples, allowing in both cases to relate $q$ to the underlying dynamics of the Hamiltonian systems.

Entropic approach to estimate the mean flow velocity: experimental investigation in laboratory flumes

The paper deals with the linear entropic relationship between the maximum velocity, u max , and the mean flow velocity, u m , through a dimensionless parameter Φ(M), in open-channel flow. The analysis is conducted with the aid of experimental data collected in straight laboratory flumes under different bed and side-walls roughness conditions. In particular, rough/vegetated beds and smooth/rough side-walls conditions have been investigated. The results show that, in the investigated conditions (with exception of low-submergence vegetated bed—h/k v < 2), Φ(M) can be assumed equal to a value that is very close to that found in natural channels. It is well known that epilepsy has a profound effect on the autonomic nervous system, especially on the autonomic control of heart rate and respiration. This effect has been widely studied during seizure activity, but less attention has been given to interictal (i.e. seizure-free) activity. The studies that have been done on this topic, showed that heart rate and respiration can be affected individually, even without the occurrence of seizures. A new representation of power spectral density and correlation function by means of fractional spectral moments

In this paper, a new perspective for the representation of both the power spectral density and the correlation function by a unique class of function is introduced. We define the moments of order gamma (gamma being a complex number) of the one sided power spectral density and we call them Fractional Spectral Moments (FSM). These complex quantities remain finite also in the case in which the ordinary spectral moments diverge, and are able to represent the whole Power Spectral Density and the corresponding correlation function.
Markov extensions for multi-dimensional dynamical systems

By a result of F. Hofbauer [11], piecewise monotonic maps of the interval can be identified with topological Markov chains with respect to measures with large entropy. We generalize this to arbitrary piecewise invertible dynamical systems under the following assumption: the total entropy of the system should be greater than the topological entropy of the boundary of some reasonable partition separating almost all orbits. We get a sufficient condition for these maps to have a finite number of invariant and ergodic probability measures with maximal entropy. We illustrate our results by quoting an application to a class of multi-dimensional, non-linear, non-expansive smooth dynamical systems.
Event-based criteria in GT-STAF information indices: theory, exploratory diversity analysis and QSPR applications

Versatile event-based approaches for the definition of novel information theory-based indices (IFIs) are presented. An event in this context is the criterion followed in the "discovery" of molecular substructures, which in turn serve as basis for the construction of the generalized incidence and relations frequency matrices, Q and F, respectively. From the resultant F, Shannon's, mutual, conditional and joint entropy-based IFIs are computed. In previous reports, an event named connected subgraphs was presented. Based on a set of six vector properties, the partial correlation diagram is calculated for a set of 28 S-alkylcysteine diazomethyl- and chloromethyl-ketone derivatives. Those with the greatest antileukemic activity in the same class correspond to high partial correlations. A periodic classification is performed based on information entropy. The first four characteristics denote the group, and the last two indicate the period. Compounds in the same period and, especially, group present similar properties. Local softening of information geometric indicators of chaos in statistical modeling in the presence of quantum-like considerations

In a previous paper (C. Cafaro et al., 2012), we compared an uncorrelated 3D Gaussian statistical model to an uncorrelated 2D Gaussian statistical model obtained from the former model by introducing a constraint that resembles the quantum mechanical canonical minimum uncertainty relation. Analysis was completed by way of the information geometry and the entropic dynamics of each system. This analysis revealed that the chaoticity of the 2D Gaussian statistical model, quantified by means of the Information Geometric Entropy (IGE), is softened or weakened with respect to the chaoticity of the 3D Gaussian statistical model due to the accessibility of more information.
