Forme di patrocinio, carità e fondazioni religiose femminili in Sicilia fra XIV e XV secolo
2017
In the Middle Ages the duty to fulfill the work of mercy laid especially upon women. Charity allowed them to obtain prayers and masses for themselves and their …
Un beghinaggio a Lentini. Religiosità laica femminile in Sicilia tra XIII e XIV secolo
2018
The essay aims to investigate som…
Silenzi e parole. L'esercizio dell'autoaffermazione femminile in Orgoglio e Pregiudizio
2015
The essay focuses on the main character of Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, Elizabeth Bennet, who possesses beauty, virtue and intellect and who uses silence, historically intended as a form of gender and social repression imposed by the social system to women, discoursively constructed as an essential component of women's behaviour and social experienced, and aimed at silencing them, as an instrument to path to her auto-assertion. The young woman, through her strategical discoursive skills based both on words but especially on silence tells the story of a heroine who must learn, over the course of her narrative, how to harness the powers of discoursive sophistication in order to circum…

Italian Association of Sleep Medicine (AIMS) position statement and guideline on the treatment of menopausal sleep disorders
2019
Insomnia, vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and depression often co-occur after the menopause, with consequent health problems and reductions in quality of life. The aim of this position statement is to provide evidence-based advice on the management of postmenopausal sleep disorders derived from a systematic review of the literature. The latter yielded results on VMS, insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and restless leg syndrome (RLS). Overall, the studies show that menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) improves VMS, insomnia, and mood. Several antidepressants can improve insomnia, either on their own or in association with MHT; these include selective serotonin reuptake …
Sleep disorders in menopause: Results from an Italian multicentric study

Menopause in the female life cycle is a special period due to important hormonal, physical and psychological changes. Ecrire pour reconquérir son corps
2021
The social life of emotive interjections in spoken British English
2019
This paper explores the discursive use of selected emotive interjections (Ow!, Ouch!; Ugh!, Yuck!; Whoops!, Whoopsadaisy!) in spoken British English. The data (drawn from the Spoken BNC2014) are coded for age, gender, social grade and type of dyad to identify potential factors governing the discursive use of these interjections. Based on 140 relevant tokens, the results suggest that: 1) The individual interjections vary significantly regarding how frequently they are found in discursive uses (p<0.001***). 2) Whoopsadaisy! is not attested in discursive uses. 3) Young female speakers behave differently from the other speaker groups in that they use emotive interjections discursively signif…
Implementation of preventive and predictive BRCA testing in patients with breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancer: a position paper of Itali…
2022
Constitutional BRCA1/BRCA2 pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants (PVs) are associated with an increased risk for developing breast and ovarian cancers. Current evidence indicates that BRCA1/2 PVs are also associated with pancreatic cancer, and that BRCA2 PVs are associated with prostate cancer risk. The identification of carriers of constitutional PVs in the BRCA1/2 genes allows the implementation of individual and family prevention pathways, through validated screening programs and risk-reducing strategies. According to the relevant and increasing therapeutic predictive implications, the inclusion of BRCA testing in the routine management of patients with breast, ovarian, pancreatic and…
