L’intento principale del saggio è mostrare quanto possa essere vantaggioso guardare al fenomeno della comprensione linguistica utilizzando l’apparato concettuale della retorica classica, messo in fruttuoso dialogo con la pragmatica contemporanea. Starting with some Alain Badiou's political reflexions, the author describes the status questionis of community referring to Platos'fundamental thesis in The Republic. For Badiou in his dialogue whith Nancy, Lacoue-Labarthe, Agamben, Blanchot, the relationship between imposibility and community is essential. The present essays is focused on such a relationship trough blending together Nancy's "singular plural being" and the condition of the philosopher in Plato's The Republic.

Referring to the so-called Böckenförde’s “dilemma” and following Guglielminetti’s analysis, the ontological inhomogeneity of community is presented as the condition for the existence of community itself. It marks an ontological drama which calls upon both the subject and the community as poles of an inalienable and responsible relationship. Thus, the model of community as an ontologically compact reality has to be replaced by a different paradigm according to which community is characterized by ontological splits which are necessarily unavoidable in order to meet the constant tensions menacing the empirical existence of the “communitary being”.

According to Gärdenfors, the theory of conceptual spaces describes a level of representation present in some cognitive agents between a sub-conceptual and a symbolic level of representation. In contrast to a large part of contemporary philosophical speculation on these matters for which concepts and conceptual content are propositional, conceptual spaces provide a geometric framework for the representation of concepts.
