The focus of the paper is planar formation control, i.e. the design of control laws to stabilize agents at given distances from each other, under the constraint that the dynamics of each agent only depends on a subset of the other agents. The main contribution of the paper is the following: It is shown that a simple four-agent formation cannot be globally stabilized using twice differentiable control laws (this is not the case for three-agent formations), even up to sets of measure zero of initial conditions. A comparison of HDFS compact data formats: Avro versus Parquet

In this paper, file formats like Avro and Parquet are compared with text formats to evaluate the performance of the data queries. Different data query patterns have been evaluated. Cloudera’s open-source Apache Hadoop distribution CDH 5.4 has been chosen for the experiments presented in this article. The results show that compact data formats (Avro and Parquet) take up less storage space when compared with plain text data formats because of binary data format and compression advantage. FASTA/Q data compressors for MapReduce-Hadoop genomics: space and time savings made easy

Abstract Background Storage of genomic data is a major cost for the Life Sciences, effectively addressed via specialized data compression methods. For the same reasons of abundance in data production, the use of Big Data technologies is seen as the future for genomic data storage and processing, with MapReduce-Hadoop as leaders. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the specialized FASTA/Q compressors is available within Hadoop. Indeed, their deployment there is not exactly immediate. Such a State of the Art is problematic. D-Galactose binding lectins from the tunicate Ascidiamalaca: Subunit characterization and hemocyte surface distribution

Abstract D-galactose specific lectins purified from Ascidia malaca serum contain a major protein component with an apparent molecular weight of about 58,000 daltons, which moves more rapidly under non-reducing conditions. Intramolecular disulfide linkages can explain this behaviour, suggesting a compact protein structure. Membrane lectins have been demonstrated on the surface of about 34% hemocytes by immunofluorescent methods using a rabbit antiserum against the isolated serum lectins. Small, medium and large hemocytes can be positive, as also shown by binding on Sepharose spherules or by rosette formation with sheep and rabbit erythrocytes. Abstract The interaction between α,β-polyasparthydrazide (PAHy) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles in aqueous solution was investigated by calorimetry and viscosimetry. The dependence of the enthalpic effect due to this interaction upon the surfactant concentration was rationalized in terms of a progressive binding of SDS micelles to the polymeric backbone. The analysis of the calorimetric data allow evaluation of the binding ability of SDS micelles to the polymeric chain. This paper investigates the drivers influencing the choice of the governance form in inter-firm relationships (IFRs) between pharmaceutical and biotech companies. By analyzing the relevant literature on the issue, we have located the main drivers that might influence such relationship and a set of hypotheses linking them to governance forms.
