Multiple stressors facilitate the spread of a non-indigenous bivalve in the Mediterranean Sea

2018

Aim The introduction of non‐indigenous species (NIS) via man‐made corridors connecting previously disparate oceanic regions is increasing globally. However, the environmental and anthropogenic factors facilitating invasion dynamics and their interactions are still largely unknown. This study compiles and inputs available data for the NIS bivalve Brachidontes pharaonis across the invaded biogeographic range in the Mediterranean basin into a species distribution model to predict future spread under a range of marine scenarios. Location Mediterranean Sea. Methods A systematic review produced the largest presence database ever assembled to inform the selection of biological, chemical and physic…

Priority areas for the conservation of Atlantic forest large mammals

2009

Large mammal faunas in tropical forest landscapes are widely affected by habitat fragmentation and hunting, yet the environmental determinants of their patterns of abundance remain poorly understood at large spatial scales. We analysed population abundance and biomass of 31 species of medium to large-bodied mammal species at 38 Atlantic forest sites (including three islands, 26 forest fragments and six continuous forest sites) as related to forest type, level of hunting pressure and forest fragment size using ANCOVAs. We also derived a novel measure of mammal conservation importance for each site based on a "Mammalian Conservation Priority index" (MPi) which incorporates information on spec…

Sistemazione in situ o musealizzazione dei frammenti architettonici: problemi di conservazione dopo il terremoto di Messina del 1908

2012

After the big earthquake of Messina in 1908, a lot of important fragments of the ancient city, coming from destroyed palaces and churches, were transported in a open space near the ancient church of SS. Salvatore, where in an old silk factory was born the actual Regional Museum of Messina. The arrangement of those elements - as Marble sculptures, big fragments of architectural decorations, stone portals - was long debated and different architects, art historians and archaeologists produced ideas and projects about the costruction of a new museum and the arrangement in open space of many fragments, so important to maintaining the memory of the ancient city of Messina, destroyed by the earthq…

How to Extract Fragments from Agent Oriented Design Processes

2013

Using Method Engineering for creating agent oriented design processes is a challenging task because of the lack of a fragment repository defined and filled starting from a shared and unique definition of fragment. The creation of a repository implies the fragmentation of existing agent design processes. In this paper we propose a set of guidelines for extracting fragments from agent design processes. The work is based on a precise definition of fragment and it aims to establish a method for fragmenting processes and obtaining homogeneous fragments regardless of how the starting design processes are defined and described. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Sul cd. Fragmentum Dositheanum

2021

Through a special examination of some features of the text commonly referred to as Fragmentum Dositheanum, the author argues that, despite the reference in a paragraph to the knowledge of ‘regulae’, the classical jurisprudential work from which the fragment is taken was not a book of regulae, but an elementary work of a close scholastic nature; moreover, according to the author, this scholastic work might be Gaius’ Res cottidianae.

Fautes musicales et fautes textuelles dans les lais lyriques transmis par les chansonniers du Roi (M) et de Noailles (T)

2020

In this contribution we shall present some anomalies in the musical notation of the anonymous lyric lais transmitted by French chansonniers M and T (i.e. Kievrefoil, Markiol and Nompar), which share the same source, and to which a recently discovered chansonnier fragment (Bo) can be added. The plural attestation of these heterostrophic texts allows to nuance the strict notion of musical error, advocated by John H. Marshall for this very corpus. Finally, we discuss an interesting case (Nompar, str. X) where musical notation can effectively help the reconstruction of a text corrupted in both witnesses.

Genotyping of GII.4 and GIIb norovirus RT-PCR amplicons by RFLP analysis

2007

GII.4 and GIIb/Hilversum norovirus (NoV) strains appear to have a prominent epidemiological role in outbreaks or sporadic cases of human gastroenteritis. Sequence analysis, although laborious, is the reference method used for characterization of noroviruses. In this study a screening test is proposed to characterize GIIb and GII.4 NoVs based on restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of amplicons obtained from the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) region. Virtual analysis of 793 RdRp sequences of GGI and GGII NoVs, retrieved from GenBank, and representative of global geographical origins on a long-time period, permitted the selection of four restriction enzymes, XmnI, Ahd…

Diagnostic polymorphisms in the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene allow discrimination between cattle, sheep, goat, roe buck and deer by PCR-RFLP

2004

Abstract Background As an alternative to direct DNA sequencing of PCR products, random PCR-RFLP is an efficient technique to discriminate between species. The PCR-RFLP-method is an inexpensive tool in forensic science, even if the template is degraded or contains only traces of DNA from various species. Results Interspecies-specific DNA sequence polymorphisms in the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene were analyzed using PCR-RFLP technology to determine the source (i.e., species) of blood traces obtained from a leaf. Conclusions The method presented can be used for the discrimination of cattle (Bos taurus), sheep (Ovis aries), goat (Capra hircus), roe buck (Capreolus capreolus) and red deer (Ce…
