Use of a portable VIS NIR device to predict table olives quality

2019

There is a growing interest today in high-quality and sustainable production especially in the agro-food sector where the use of automated, precise and non-destructive monitoring analytical systems is spreading more and more. In table olives consumption colour and texture are very important quality attributes deriving from ripening, size of the cell wall, middle lamella and fibrous tissues that can be compromised by bruising during harvest operations or postharvest handling. Mechanical damage also accelerates physiological processes, which lead to senescence, spoilage and loss of nutritional value. Nocellara del Belice cultivar is one of the most important table olive varieties in Italy bot…

The color of dried fruit through the color analysis sensor

2020

The consumption of dried fruit in the world, primarily almonds from hazelnuts followed by walnuts and pistachios, has increased exponentially in recent decades and has increased especially in the past year. The consumer directs his choice of consumption on dried fruit, not only from his taste preferences but also from the color of the packaged product. To determine the color with a fast method is fundamental for a commercial success of the product.

Effects of Tray-Drying on the Physicochemical, Microbiological, Proximate, and Sensory Properties of White- and Red-Fleshed Loquat (Eriobotrya Japoni…

2022

Loquat fruits, highly valued by consumers for their characteristic aroma and pleasant taste, have a short post-harvest life and are susceptible to mechanical damage, loss of firmness, and initial organoleptic characteristics. The aim of this work was to develop a drying method suitable for storing loquat fruits in polyamide/polyethylene (PA/PE) bags containing two gaseous mixtures (treatments): MAPN2 (100% N2) and MAPP (21% O2 and 0.04% CO2), at room temperature (20 ± 1 °C) for at least 2 months. The effects of these conditions on the physico-chemical, microbiological, proximate, and sensory properties of fruit stored over a 50-day time interval were studied. The results showed that convect…

Implementation of a wireless instrumented sphere for fruit processing

2020

The aim of this study was to implement a wireless instrumented sphere to study the critical points in a citrus packing line by real-time measuring the impacts experienced by fruits. The noncommercial device was based on a MEMS (microelectro-mechanical system) sensor node with a sensing range from ±1 g to ±400 g (g = 9.8 m s-2), a ferroelectric RAM (FRAM) memory, a radio frequency (RF) transmitter, a microcontroller, and a 75 mAh lithium battery. The sensor node was placed inside an appropriate case with a total weight of 100 g to represent a 'Tardivo di Ciaculli' mandarin. An FR receiver allowed real-time transmission of the measured data. Total acceleration values, representing the stresse…

Carbohydrate Metabolism and Source-Sink Relationships in Peach

2011

A growing plant can be viewed as a collection of carbohydrate sinks competing with each other for the available photosynthate supplied by the exporting leaves. Differences in sink strength often result in changes in the ability of various organs to compete for the available food determining final tree growth. A series of experiments have been conducted in peach to study changes and regulation of carbohydrate metabolism in growing organs and get a better understanding of the link between carbohydrate metabolism, sink strength, carbon partitioning and overall tree growth. Along with sucrose, sorbitol represents the major photosynthetic product and the main form of translocated carbon in peach…

Possible involvement of gibberellins on leaf expansion and carbohydrate accumulation in Citrus

1989

During the spring flush of growth both vegetative shoots and inflorescences are formed in Citrus. Some of these inflorescences bear both flowers and leaves (GOLDSCHMIDT and MONSELISE 1972). The leaves from leafy inflorescences are smaller in size (GUARDIOLA et al. 1984) and differ in composition, both organic (SANZ et al. 1987b) and mineral (EMBLETON et al. 1973) as compared to leaves from vegetative sprouts. Some of these differences are related to the competition of nearby developing flowers and fruitlets, but a different type of regulation may also be involved. Early removal of developing reproductive organs had no effect on leaf growth (SANZ et al. 1987a). Further, inflorescence leaves …

"To czego, do cholery żresz te jabłka" - o głodzie w powieści "Piękne kalalie albo dojrzewanie miłości" Bogdana Madeja

2016
