Abstract More than five decades have been invested in understanding glucose biosensors. Yet, this immensely versatile field has continued to gain attention from the scientific world to better understand and diagnose diabetes. Redox signaling in acute pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory process of the pancreatic gland that eventually may lead to a severe systemic inflammatory response. A key event in pancreatic damage is the intracellular activation of NF-κB and zymogens, involving also calcium, cathepsins, pH disorders, autophagy, and cell death, particularly necrosis. This review focuses on the new role of redox signaling in acute pancreatitis. Measurement of D-meson production versus multiplicity in p-Pb collisions at √SNN = 5.02 TeV

The measurement of prompt D-meson production as a function of multiplicity in p–Pb collisions at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC is reported. D0 , D+ and D∗+ mesons are reconstructed via their hadronic decay channels in the centre-of-mass rapidity range −0.96 < ycms < 0.04 and transverse momentum interval 1 < pT < 24 GeV/c. Λc+ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

The pT-differential production cross section of prompt Λ+ c charmed baryons was measured with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV and in p-Pb collisions at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV at midrapidity. The Λ+ c and Λ– c were reconstructed in the hadronic decay modes Λ+ c → pK−π +, Λ+ c → pK0 S and in the semileptonic channel Λ+ c → e +νeΛ (and charge conjugates). Measurement of beauty production via non-prompt D0 mesons in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

The production of non-prompt D0 mesons from beauty-hadron decays was measured at midrapidity (|y| 5 GeV/c in the 0–10% central Pb-Pb collisions. The data are described by models that include both collisional and radiative processes in the calculation of beauty-quark energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma, and quark recombination in addition to fragmentation as a hadronisation mechanism. The ratio of the non-prompt to prompt D0-meson RAA is larger than unity for pT> 4 GeV/c in the 0–10% central Pb-Pb collisions, as predicted by models in which beauty quarks lose less energy than charm quarks in the quark-gluon plasma because of their larger mass. Gluon Polarisation in the Nucleon and Longitudinal Double Spin Asymmetries from Open Charm Muoproduction

The gluon polarisation in the nucleon has been determined by detecting charm production via D0 meson decay to charged K and pi in polarised muon scattering off a longitudinally polarised deuteron target. The data were taken by the COMPASS Collaboration at CERN between 2002 and 2006 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.8 fb^-1. The dominant underlying process of charm production is the photon-gluon fusion to a cc-bar pair. A leading order QCD approach gives an average gluon polarisation of (Delta g/g)_x= -0.49 +- 0.27(stat) +- 0.11(syst) at a scale mu^2 ~ 13 (GeV/c)^2 and at an average gluon momentum fraction (x) ~ 0.11. Jet evolution in a dense medium: event-by-event fluctuations and multi-particle correlations

International audience; We study the gluon distribution produced via successive medium-induced branchings by an energetic jet propagating through a weakly-coupled quark-gluon plasma. We show that under suitable approximations, the jet evolution is a Markovian stochastic process, which is exactly solvable. Analysis of the response of PVA-GTA Fricke-gel dosimeters with clinical magnetic resonance imaging

Abstract Fricke gel dosimeters produced with a matrix of Poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) cross-linked with glutaraldehyde (GTA) were analyzed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Previous studies based on spectrophotometry showed valuable dosimetric features of these gels in terms of X-ray sensitivity and diffusion of the ferric ions produced after irradiation. In this study, MRI was performed on the gels at 1.5 T with a clinical scanner in order to optimize the acquisition parameters and obtain high contrast between irradiated and non-irradiated samples.
