Vocational bachelor graduates in France: labour market integration and social mobility

2014

The access of these vocational bachelor graduates to the labour market raises the issue of their professional prospects amid changing economic and social circumstances. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – To provide insights into these issues, the employment situation of bachelor graduates during the first years of active working life will be compared with other tertiary graduates entering the labour market in the same years, using econometric models that estimate the effects of vocational courses “all other t…

Data analysis method for evaluating dialogic learning

2001

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new method of analysing and evaluating dialogic learning. Dialogic learning offers possibilities that have not previously been found in nursing or nursing education, although some nursing researchers have lately become interested in dialogic nursing interaction between nurses and patients. The stages of analysis of dialogic learning have been illustrated by using an example. The data for this illustration were collected by video-taping a planning process where students for a Master’s degree (qualifying them to be nursing instructors in Finland) plan, implement and evaluate a course for nursing students, on the care of terminally ill patie…

Teaching practice as a testbench of learning in master's degree education for nurse teachers in Finland.

1998

This article presents the approach and procedures used in a Finnish developmental study on nurse teacher education. The teaching practice period was organized by dividing student teachers into small study groups and assigning the group an entire course to be planned and carried out in teacher/student collaboration. The work process of the groups was videotaped and analysed qualitatively. Preliminary results and ideas concerning the developmental needs of nurse teacher education are presented.

Revista electrónica de investigación y evaluación educativa

2021

Background of INCASI Project H2020-MSCA-RISE-2015 GA 691004.

Contributions and limitations of self assessment of competences by higher education graduates

2009

This work presents a continuum of competence. On one extreme of which there is a subtlety of concept of competence. On the other, there are rigorous econometric analyses to find the answer to a critical question: ―to what extent is the assessment of competence reliable? ‖ Quest into the etymology helped us providing a rationale in favour of the preferred use of competence over competency. Moreover, we come to trace its roots in French literature where it was in use long before its emergence in English literature. We found that competences were common among various geopolitical locations and inferred that interest in competence has been internationalised realistically. Both English and Frenc…

Public Health Genomics education in post-graduate schools of hygiene and preventive medicine: a cross-sectional survey.

2014

Background The relevance of Public Health Genomics (PHG) education among public health specialists has been recently acknowledged by the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region. The aim of this cross-sectional survey was to assess the prevalence of post-graduate public health schools for medical doctors which offer PHG training in Italy. Methods The directors of the 33 Italian public health schools were interviewed for the presence of a PHG course in place. We stratified by geographical area (North, Centre and South) of the schools. We performed comparisons of categorical data using the chi-squared test. Results The response rate was 73% (24/33 schools). Among respond…

Sleep HERMES: a European training project for respiratory sleep medicine

2011

The clinical characterisation and description of the obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome (OSAHS) and related syndromes have been revealed by several epidemiological studies conducted in the late 20th and 21st centuries. These highly prevalent syndromes affect about 9% of middle-aged males and 4% of females. These syndromes have serious medical and social consequences, such as cardiovascular or metabolic diseases and even premature death. Consequently, respiratory sleep medicine has evolved and progressed rapidly within the sleep medicine field over the last decades. New diagnostic and therapeutic techniques appeared in response to an increasing number of patients and clinical interv…

Development and evaluation of 3-dimensional printed models of the human tracheobronchial system for training in flexible bronchoscopy.

2017

OBJECTIVES Training and assessment of proper skills in flexible bronchoscopy are major educational goals for cardiothoracic residents. Therefore, we developed 3-dimensional (3D) printed models of the human tracheobronchial system for training and assessment of cardiothoracic residents in flexible bronchoscopy. METHODS Three models of normal (size/shape) human tracheobronchial anatomy were generated using a commercially available 3D printer. Ten residents (inexperienced: Group 1; experienced: Group 2) participated in this study with an experimental setting of initial assessment (Model 1), training (15 min, Model 2) and post-training assessment (Model 3). The time needed for flexible bronchos…
