Pathways to higher education in France and Switzerland: Do vocational tracks facilitate access to higher education for immigrant students?

2014

In this chapter we wish to clarify through which institutional pathways higher education is accessed by immigrant group students in Switzerland and France. We have chosen these two countries because they differ from each other both in their educational systems and in the ways new routes to higher education have been set up through vocationally orientated programmes. The educational landscape in France is characterised by a more school-based system and has a greater tradition of prestigious tertiary education institutions (Duru-Bellat et al., 2008). Moreover, traditional vocational education and training (VET) does not have very high status and therefore fails to attract a large proportion o…

Pathways enabling educational success for vulnerable immigrants in Switzerland, Canada and France

2014

WORK-BASED STUDIES IN HIGHER PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION OF LATVIA AND EUROPE: THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS

2021

Work-based learning has been developing rapidly in Latvia for the last three years. Since 2017, the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia has been implementing a project of the European Social Fund, which provides for a tripartite learning implementation agreement between the educational institution, the student, and the employer. The project targets vocational learners, but equivalent opportunities are also spoken of in higher vocational education. Such an approach would help the employer direct the future employees in the direction of acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills. The publication aims to give a short overview of the historical development of learning opportunities in the work…

PROJECT AS AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION FOR CHANGES IN HIGHER EDUCATION

2015

<p>The article analyzes project as a method of innovative solution in higher education which may result in introducing gradual changes in the institutions of higher education. There is a universal opinion that universities are conservative institutions where changes are slow or they are not at all. Nowadays the emphasis of action changes and higher education institutions (hereafter in the text HEI) look for cooperation possibilities with the employers and the possible applicants; they try to get closer to the society by participating in social and economic changes that take place in the society and participate in developing the education policy and decision making. Implementation of p…
