Exploring fast proton transfer events associated with lateral proton diffusion on the surface of membranes

Proton diffusion (PD) across biological membranes is a fundamental process in many biological systems, and much experimental and theoretical effort has been employed for deciphering it. Here, we report on a spectroscopic probe, which can be tightly tethered to the membrane, for following fast (nanosecond) proton transfer events on the surface of membranes. Our probe is composed of a photoacid that serves as our light-induced proton source for the initiation of the PD process. Taking charge of psychiatric patients represents a complex intervention, aimed at increasing autonomy and quality of life of both individuals with a severe psychiatric symptomatology and their relatives; in particular, psychiatric rehabilitation and psychoeducational interventions, focusing on treatment and relational and social skills, may lead to a decrease in negative effects from the illness. Despite the importance of patients’ psychological well-being in their own recovery from illness, few studies examine these issues while the patient is still in ICU. This study analyzes the psychological distress of 71 ICU patients and the potential risk/protective factors for such distress. Patients showed moderate anxiety and depression although in a significant percentage clinical symptomatology was observed. More than halve of the patients revealed an intermediate general stress level and the most important stressor was having pain. Acacia saligna, appelée également Acacia cyanophylla, est une fabacée arbustive originaire de l'Australie. Cette plante a une grande résilience et s’adapte facilement à de nombreux écosystèmes différents, ce qui lui confère une importance économique forte.
