This research is a hybrid of a monograph and a multiple-article dissertation. Its theoretical starting point is a phenomenologically based view of the being of the image, in which Georges Didi-Huberman´s work plays a central role. For him, as well as for Mieke Bal, a historical work of art is never only in the distant past only but also exists in the present actuality. This makes the temporality of the Image extremely complex. The Image can be encountered only “pre-posterously” (Bal) or by reading it “against the grain” (Didi-Huberman). The Image is necessarily anachronistic; it is not in time but opens up time. Dysbaric accidents are usually referred to compressed air-supplied diving. Nonetheless, some cases of decompression illness are known to have occurred among breath-hold (BH) divers also, and they are reported in the medical literature. A male BH diver (57 years old), underwater fishing champion, presented neurological disorders as dizziness, sensory numbness, blurred vision, and left frontoparietal pain after many dives to a 30–35 meters sea water depth with short surface intervals. Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tarkoituksena oli analysoida Fëanoria, fantasiakirjailija J.R.R. Tolkienin luomaa fiktiivistä sankarihahmoa. Kuvaileva kirjallisuustutkimus jakaantui kahteen osaan: Toisaalta Fëanoria verrattiin traagisen sankarin käsitteeseen käyttämällä Aristoteleen Runousopissa (330-320 eKr.) kuvailemia sääntöjä ja vaatimuksia. Toisaalta Fëanoria verrattiin Kalevalan myyttiseen seppähahmoon, Seppo Ilmariseen. Fëanoria ja Seppo Ilmarista vertailemalla tarkasteltiin myös yleisemmin J.R.R.
