Background & Aims: Risk for relapse after induction of remission with steroid therapy has been studied extensively in patients with autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP), but findings have been equivocal. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the relapse rate of AIP after initial remission after steroid treatment and to identify factors associated with relapse. The induction of hepatic microsomal metabolism in rats following acute administration of a mixture of polybrominated biphenyls.

Abstract Firemaster BP6, a mixture of polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), was administered to female Sprague-Dawley rats (170–180 g) as a single ip injection at 25 and 150 mg/kg. Other animals received phenobarbital (PB), 3-methylcholanthrene (3MC), or PB and 3MC together. Animals were killed at intervals of 12, 24, 48, 192, and 336 hr after treatment with PBBs, or 24 hr after PB, MC, or PB-MC, and various hepatic microsomal parameters were measured. After 150 mg/kg of PBBs, cytochrome P450 concentrations reached a maximum by 48 hr (225% of control), then remained elevated through 336 hr. Treatment of early childhood medulloblastoma by postoperative chemotherapy alone.

The prognosis for young children with medulloblastoma is poor, and survivors are at high risk for cognitive deficits. We conducted a trial of the treatment of this brain tumor by intensive postoperative chemotherapy alone.After surgery, children received three cycles of intravenous chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, methotrexate, carboplatin, and etoposide) and intraventricular methotrexate. Abstract The activities of the following enzymes have been determined in nuclei of quail oviducts in response to exogenous stimulation of the birds with diethylstilbestrol, used as an estrogen analogue and progesterone: DNA dependent DNA polymerase, DNA dependent RNA polymerase I and II and poly(adenosine diphosphate-ribose) [=poly(ADP-Rib)] polymerase. During primary stimulation with the estrogen analogue the activities of the four DNA dependent polymerases increase to about the same degree. IMPORTANCE OF THE FIELD: Increased understanding of the biological mechanisms of Crohn's disease has opened the door to a large number of new molecules; some of these are approved for clinical use, while others remain under evaluation. In this review, we examine the clinical efficacy of all the new drugs that have been evaluated in controlled trials in the last 12 years. Temporal Profile of Gene Induction After Venous Ischemia and Effects of Spreading Depression

Occlusion of two adjacent cortical veins is followed by a widespread reduction of rCBF and the occurrence of small infarcts, which become larger if spreading depression (SD) occurs. The infarct matures over time with TUNEL-positive cells seen in the penumbra up to 4 days after vein occlusion. Caspase inhibition with zVAD.fmk reduces infarct size. Here, the time course of gene expression in the penumbra is compared to that induced by SD alone.
