John Smith. Personalized and posture care chair, on demand
2019
Today the technological development or the continuous acceleration of inventions and innovations has established the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This has given rise to an “in- telligent” factory, which produces objects that are not necessarily serialized but personalized to satisfy individual needs at low costs. From here arises the idea of configuring a customized chair, printed in 3D, medical (postural) and truly within the reach of all. The achievement of this objective involves the orchestration of a series of activities: a product configurator, a sof- tware for the management of physical parameters, thanks to the collaboration of osteopathics physiotherapists; an e-commerce site, for…
The supermarket of future
2020
As the last trends demonstrate, the supermarket of the near future will change face. Here, we will find only high-quality products, belonging to the category of ‘fresh’ and purchasable by smartphone. The packaged products, belonging to the category of ‘dry’, will be more conveniently purchasable on-line. Therefore, cash-registers and the areas before cash-registers will disappear at the entrance and the exit of supermarket. And most of physical space of the today supermarket will be useless. Here is the problem – nowadays the space ingeniously designed of the area before cash-register yields 30% of the whole profit of the supermarket, thank to the irrational buying. How will the supermarket…
Microstorie di design siciliano
2020
Institutional Dynamics in International Organizations: Lessons from the Recruitment Procedures of the European External Action Service
2014
Author's version of an article in the journal: Organization Studies. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0170840614544558 This article examines how organizational designs develop by proposing a novel theoretical framework that views organizational change as resulting from a dialectic process between interpretive agents. The key claim is that existing formal procedures (such as recruitment processes, our empirical focal point) are subject to involved actors’ interpretive efforts. This results in a bargaining situation based on the interpretations of the principal actors, which may induce a feedback loop whereby the original procedures are amended. The empirical re…
The dialectics of spatial performances: The interplay of tensions in activity-based organizing
2019
Navigating organizational workspace is often plagued with tensions that emerge from the interplay of intended designs with organizational activities and lived experiences. These tensions are evident in research findings, such as inconsistencies in the ways that employees react to new workplace designs. They call on scholars to rethink organizational space, not as a concrete, static, or ready-made ‘thing’, but as a set of ongoing performances that enact particular practices, clashes among opposites, and organizational tensions. Based on research in a Nordic company, this study reveals how tensions and responses to them in an activity-based office generate creative alternatives that enhance …
2019
When we talk with basic education´s teachers there is an impression in the case of learning Social Sciences, and Geography in particular that these sciences are not useful for the explanation of socio-environmental and daily problems. In this research, improvement proposals are sought so that students are motivated to learn about these problems. Based on two case studies such as flood risks (and their relationship with climate change) and the problems of the rural areas, the possibilities of combining motivation for learning close to personal emotions and with their own rigor have been explored of the conceptual explanation. To validate these results, quantitative and qualitative research t…
R&D subsidies & external collaborative breadth: Differential gains and the role of collaboration experience
2018
The file attached to this record is the author's final peer reviewed version. External collaboration breadth is important for firms to acquire the knowledge needed to innovate. In this paper, we combine cross-sectional and longitudinal data from the Spanish Panel of Technological Innovation Survey (PITEC) to examine the indirect impact of R&D subsidies on firm external collaboration breadth. We contribute to understanding of the indirect impacts of R&D subsidies by first providing strong evidence of an economically significant average positive impact of R&D subsidies on firm external collaboration breadth. Second, our results advance understanding of the differential impacts of R&D subsidie…
Contours of diffusion of electronic data interchange in Finland
1998
Abstract Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)—despite its basic simplicity—forms a complex and inter-organizational innovation. This necessitates multiple points of observation and the use of multiple theoretical frames in accounting EDI diffusion processes. Based on field study data we deliver a multi-level account of EDI diffusion in Finland. The study clarifies how factors located on three levels of analysis can be applied to understand the unfolding of EDI adoption in different organizational constellations, here called diffusion patterns. We examine three families of diffusion patterns: local dyadic patterns; industry-wide networks; and national initiatives. Overall we discern five distin…
