Atypical Antipsychotics in the Treatment of Acute Bipolar Depression with Mixed Features: A Systematic Review and Exploratory Meta-Analysis of Placeb…

2016

Evidence supporting the use of second generation antipsychotics (SGAs) in the treatment of acute depression with mixed features (MFs) associated with bipolar disorder (BD) is scarce and equivocal. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and preliminary meta-analysis investigating SGAs in the treatment of acute BD depression with MFs. Two authors independently searched major electronic databases from 1990 until September 2015 for randomized (placebo-) controlled trials (RCTs) or open-label clinical trials investigating the efficacy of SGAs in the treatment of acute bipolar depression with MFs. A random-effect meta-analysis calculating the standardized mean difference (SMD) between SGA an…

One-pot preparation of surface modified boehmite nanoparticles with rare-earth cyclen complexes.

2007

We report on the one-pot synthetic procedure of cyclen derivatives bearing three acetate groups attached on boehmite nanoparticles, the complexing capabilities of these inorganic–organic hybrid materials with rare earth cations, and the behaviour as contrast agents or fluorescence probes. Donation and back-donation in cis- and trans-[(η5-C5H5)Fe(η1-CO)(μ-CO)]2 tautomers: Which relative is more generous? An ETS-NOCV bond analysis

2022

The ETS-NOCV bond analysis has been exploited to quantitatively estimate donation and back-donation properties of [(η5-C5H5)]−, CO, and FeI in the cis-/trans-[(η5-C5H5)Fe(η1-CO)(μ-CO)]2 (cis-I/trans-I) tautomers. Theoretical outcomes indicate that the Fe-CO bond, regardless to the CO monoapto (η1-) or bridging (μ-) coordination, has a sizeable π Fe → CO back-bonding contribution, which is stronger in trans-I than in cis-I. Moreover, [(η5-C5H5)]− has the weakest back-donation acceptor capability. The back-bonding behaviour of the Fe → η1-CO interaction well agrees with the experimental symmetric/antisymmetric infrared νCO (sνηjavax.xml.bind.JAXBElement@fc12185-CO/aνηjavax.xml.bind.JAXBElemen…

Synthesis and In Vitro Evaluation of a Photosensitizer-BODIPY Derivative for Potential Photodynamic Therapy Applications

2015

A new photosensitizer (1) based on the 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) scaffold has been synthesized. 1 is water soluble and showed an intense absorption band at 490 nm (e=77600 cm-1M-1) and an emission at 514 nm. In vitro toxicity of 1 in the presence of light and in darkness has been studied with HeLa, HaCaT, MCF-7, and SCC-13 cell lines. Moreover, internalization studies of 1 in these cell lines were also performed. These results suggested that 1 is more toxic for SCC-13 and HeLa carcinoma cells than for the HaCaT noncancerous immortal human keratinocytes. Toxicity upon light irradiation was due to the formation of singlet oxygen and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Cel…

Selective chromo-fluorogenic detection of DFP (a Sarin and Soman mimic) and DCNP (a Tabun mimic) with a unique probe based on a boron dipyrromethene …

2014

[EN] A novel colorimetric probe (P4) for the selective differential detection of DFP (a Sarin and Soman mimic) and DCNP (a Tabun mimic) was prepared. Probe P4 contains three reactive sites; i.e. (i) a nucleophilic phenol group able to undergo phosphorylation with nerve gases, (ii) a carbonyl group as a reactive site for cyanide; and (iii) a triisopropylsilyl (TIPS) protecting group that is known to react with fluoride. The reaction of P4 with DCNP in acetonitrile resulted in both the phosphorylation of the phenoxy group and the release of cyanide, which was able to react with the carbonyl group of P4 to produce a colour modulation from pink to orange. In contrast, phosphorylation of P4 with…

A Rapid and Sensitive Strip-Based Quick Test for Nerve Agents Tabun, Sarin, and Soman Using BODIPY-Modified Silica Materials

2016

Test strips that in combination with a portable fluorescence reader or digital camera can rapidly and selectively detect chemical warfare agents (CWAs) such as Tabun (GA), Sarin (GB), and Soman (GD) and their simulants in the gas phase have been developed. The strips contain spots of a hybrid indicator material consisting of a fluorescent BODIPY indicator covalently anchored into the channels of mesoporous SBA silica microparticles. The fluorescence quenching response allows the sensitive detection of CWAs in the mu g m(-3) range in a few seconds.

On the structure of 3-acetylamino-5-methyl- 1,2,4-oxadiazole and on the fully degenerate rearrangements (FDR) of its anion: a stimulating comparison …

2009

An accurate crystal structure determination has provided evidence for a planar conformation for 3-acetylamino-5-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (5), in agreement with quantum-mechanical calculations in the gas phase. In the crystal, a series of strong intermolecular N7H7...O9 hydrogen bonds link the amido groups of different molecules, causing the formation of infinite parallel ordered chains. The effect of the DMSO solvent on the energy and charge distribution of compound 5 and on its relevant 5S anion, involved in a fully degenerate rearrangement (FDR), has been deepened by quantum-mechanical DFT calculations. The calculated energy barrier for the FDR increases in going from in vacuo to DMSO, in …

Effect of carbon source supply and its location on competition between inoculated and established bacterial strains in sterile soil microcosm

1999

The aim of this work was to study how the location of a carbon source and of bacterial cells in soil can enhance the growth of a bacterial inoculum. Studies were performed using irradiated soil and two pairs of strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum and Pseudomonas fluorescens. For each species, an antibiotic-resistant mutant was used as inoculant and introduced into a sterile soil pre-colonised with its parent strain. The inocula and a glycerol amendment were introduced together or separately into soil using porous microgranules or by spraying a suspension onto the bulk soil. Competition was assessed by plate counts of both inoculant and established populations. Both B. japonicum and P. fluor…
