Christina Rossetti’s Speaking Likenesses: Different Forms of Travel in Victorian Children’s Literature

2011

Iron intake among Lebanese women: sociodemographic factors, iron-rich dietary patterns, and preparation of hummus, a Mediterranean dish

2021

Background: Plant-based foods such as hummus are alternative to animal protein, and when properly pre-pared, they help to alleviate nutritional iron deficiency that leads to anemia, a global health problem. Objective: The objective was to assess iron intake among Lebanese women and related participant’s charac-teristics, discern iron-rich dietary patterns, evaluate their association with nutrients intake and participant’s sociodemographic characteristics, and identify the women preparing hummus traditionally and properly for an enhanced iron bioavailability. Design: A cross-sectional study of 400 Lebanese women (18–74 years old) was conducted in Lebanon. Data from a questionnaire, including…

X-ray Spectroscopy of (Ba,Sr,La)(Fe,Zn,Y)O3-δIdentifies Structural and Electronic Features Favoring Proton Uptake

2020

Mixed protonic–electronic conducting oxides are key functional materials for protonic ceramic fuel cells. Here, (Ba,Sr,La)(Fe,Zn,Y)O3−δ perovskites are comprehensively investigated by X-ray spectroscopy (in oxidized and reduced states). Extended X-ray absorption fine structure shows that Zn,Y doping strongly increases the tendency for Fe–O–Fe buckling. X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy at the Fe K-edge and X-ray Raman scattering at the O K edge demonstrate that both iron and oxygen states are involved when the samples are oxidized, and for the Zn,Y doped materials, the hole transfer from iron to oxygen is less pronounced. This can be correlated with the observation that these material…

Yield behavior of magnetorheological suspensions

2003

The rheology of suspensions containing magnetic particles of micrometer size is strongly modified by the application of a magnetic field. We first describe a model experiment where the suspension is made of spheres of millimeter size and we show that the experimental dependence of the yield stress is well predicted by a non-affine model where the chains of particles break in the middle. Then we compare these predictions with some experimental results obtained on suspensions of carbonyl iron; it is shown that this model does not apply in this case. We propose a mechanism where after some friction on the walls the aggregates begin to rotate and break at a strain smaller than unity, due to the…

Nanoscale X-Ray Imaging of Spin Dynamics in Yttrium Iron Garnet

2019

Time-resolved scanning transmission x-ray microscopy (TR-STXM) has been used for the direct imaging of spin wave dynamics in thin film yttrium iron garnet (YIG) with spatial resolution in the sub 100 nm range. Application of this x-ray transmission technique to single crystalline garnet films was achieved by extracting a lamella (13x5x0.185 $\mathrm{\mu m^3}$) of liquid phase epitaxy grown YIG thin film out of a gadolinium gallium garnet substrate. Spin waves in the sample were measured along the Damon-Eshbach and backward volume directions of propagation at gigahertz frequencies and with wavelengths in a range between 100~nm and 10~$\mathrm{\mu}$m. The results were compared to theoretical …

Experimental and Theoretical Investigations on the Synthesis, Structure, Reactivity, and Bonding of the Stannylene-Iron Complex Bis{{bis(2-tert-butyl…

2000

The pi-(arene)bis(stannylene) complex bis(bis(2-tert-butyl-4,5,6-trimethylphenyl)SnFe(eta6-toluene) (Sn-Fe-Sn, 15) is accessible in high yields by a metal-atom-mediated synthesis between iron atoms, toluene, and the stannylene [bis(2-tert-butyl-4,5,6-trimethylphenyl)Sn](3). Complex 15 has a half-sandwich structure with short Fe -Sn bonds (2.432(1) A) and a trigonal-planar coordination at both the Fe and Sn atoms. The distance between the two Sn centers is 3.56 A. Complex 15 is stable under ambient conditions and displays a pi-arene lability, so far rarely observed for (arene)iron complexes; this leads to an irreversible substitution of the arene and formation of fivefold-coordinated zeroval…

Influence of pea genotype on root associated fluorescent pseudomonads, impact on plant iron nutrition

2019

International audience; Pea has a high potential in agroecology because of its ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen and for Humannutrition due to the high amino-acids content of its seeds. However, pea can suffer from a susceptibility toiron deficiency in calcareous soils as expressed by chlorosis symptoms. Previous studies have shown thatsiderophores of model strains of fluorescent pseudomonads (fp), pyoverdines, promote iron nutrition ofarabidopsis and tobacco. We hypothesized that susceptibility to iron deficiency of pea is at least partly dueto its ability to select fluorescent pseudomonad that promote differentially plant nutrition thanks to theirsiderophores. To identify siderophores po…

Vix: The Temptation of the City

2019

International audience; Ancient and modern geographers tend to use three criteria to define cities: a population above 5,000 inhabitants, the presence of a variety of activities, and a network connecting them with other establishments. Plato, Herodotus, Pausanias, and many others had preceded them in attempting to establish a paradigm for the city or polis. The Celtic princely seat on Vix-Mont Lassois is considered a coherent and organised entity, consisting of a quasi-urban space. At Vix, the latest investigations (2016‑2019) have revealed remains that suggest the possibility of harbour installations on the banks of the Seine. The notion of urbanisation or proto-urbanisation has been put f…

OCCUPATIONS DOMESTIQUE ET FUNÉRAIRE DE L'ÂGE DU FER À LAVAU (AUBE)

2007
