X-ray emission from fast moving shocks in the protostellar jet HH 154: a binding diagnostic of the emission mechanism

2004

We propose to determine the proper motion of the X-ray source associated with HH 154, the only known protostellar jet in which the X-ray emission mechanism can be studied in detail. Our numerical simulations indicate that the X-rays are produced in a fast-moving (500 km/s) post-shock region, and our HST observations show high proper motion shocked material moving at similar speed. Detection (or lack of) of proper motion of the X-ray source will strongly confirm (or falsify) our model, and constitute the basis for a general theory of X-ray emission in protostellar jets. Understanding and modeling the emission mechanism is key to assess the lifetime of the X-ray emission and thus the influenc…

An X-ray characterization of the central region of the supernova remnant G332.5-5.6

2015

Aims. We present an X-ray analysis of the central region of supernova remnant (SNR) G332.5-5.6 through an exhaustive analysis of XMM-Netwon observations with complementary infrared observations. We characterize and discuss the origin of the observed X-ray morphology, which presents a peculiar plane edge over the west side of the central region. Methods. The morphology and spectral properties of the X-ray SNR were studied using a single full frame XMM-Netwon observation in the 0.3 to 10.0 keV energy band. Archival infrared WISE observations at 8, 12 and 24 μm were also used to investigate the properties of the source and its surroundings at different wavelengths. Results. The results show th…

Laboratory measurements and astronomical search for the HSO radical

2016

[Context] Despite the fact that many sulfur-bearing molecules, ranging from simple diatomic species up to astronomical complex molecules, have been detected in the interstellar medium, the sulfur chemistry in space is largely unknown and a depletion in the abundance of S-containing species has been observed in the cold, dense interstellar medium. The chemical form of the missing sulfur has yet to be identified.

"Tuulipuvun tuolla puolen jossain on maa" : avoin intertekstuaalisuus Ismo Alangon rocklyriikassa

2017

Tutkimus tarkastelee avoimia intertekstuaalisia viittauksia Ismo Alangon rocklyriikassa. Tutkimuks…

Spatially Resolved Broadband Synchrotron Emission from the Nonthermal Limbs of SN1006

2018

We present ~400ks NuSTAR observations of the northeast (NE) and southwest (SW) non-thermal limbs of the Galactic SNR SN1006. We discovered three sources with X-ray emission detected at >50keV. Two of them are identified as background AGN. We extract the NuSTAR spectra from a few regions along the non-thermal limbs and jointly analyze them with the XMM-Newton spectra and the radio data. The broad-band radio/X-ray spectra can be well described with a synchrotron emission model from a single population of CR electrons with a power law energy distribution and an exponential cutoff. The power law index of the electron particle distribution function (PDF) is ~1.88-1.95 for both the NE and SW l…

Ironia, satiiri ja suomalaisuus Ismo Alangon rocklyriikassa

2015

Pro gradu -tutkielmassani tutkin laulaja-lauluntekijä Ismo Alangon sanoitusten ironisuutta ja satiiria sekä sanoitusten tuottamaa käsitystä suomalaisuudesta. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu viidestä musiikkialbumista, joiden sanoitukset löytyvät lyriikkakokoelmakirjasta Sanat (2013) Analyysissa on painotettu niitä sanoituksia, jotka soveltuvat osuvammin valitsemalleni näkökulmalle. Sanoitukset ovat vuosilta 1980, 1990, 1995, 2000 ja 2013. Tutkielman teoreettinen tausta koostuu ironiaa, satiiria ja kulttuuri-identiteettiä käsittelevästä teoriatiedosta. Ironian ja satiirin teoriataustassa hyödynnän kirjallisuudentutkimuksen käsityksiä ironiasta ja satiirista. Ironian käsittely pohjaa lisäksi kieliti…

Fast changes in the morphology of the X-ray emitting shocks in HH 154

2006

Our recent second epoch Chandra observations have shown a fast morphological evolution of the X-ray source associated with the protostellar jet HH 154 (Fig.\ 1). We propose to study the evolution of the optical structures in the jet, specially the ones associated with the X-ray emission with a monitoring program of imaging narrow and broad band optical observations. We will determine the proper motions (and braking) of the optical knows associated with shock features and the evolution of their line luminosity and therefore their cooling time. These data, together with our past and future X-ray observations, constitute a fundamental input and constraint to our parallel program of ongoing hyd…
