Carbon stock increases up to old growth forest along a secondary succession in Mediterranean island ecosystems.

2019

The occurrence of old-growth forests is quite limited in Mediterranean islands, which have been subject to particularly pronounced human impacts. Little is known about the carbon stocks of such peculiar ecosystems compared with different stages of secondary succession. We investigated the carbon variation in aboveground woody biomass, in litter and soil, and the nitrogen variation in litter and soil, in a 100 years long secondary succession in Mediterranean ecosystems. A vineyard, three stages of plant succession (high maquis, maquis-forest, and forest-maquis), and an old growth forest were compared. Soil samples at two soil depths (0-15 and 15-30 cm), and two litter types, relatively undec…

Functional genomics of Lactobacillus casei establishment in the gut

2014

International audience; Although the composition of the gut microbiota and its symbiotic contribution to key host physiological functions are well established, little is known as yet about the bacterial factors that account for this symbiosis. We selected Lactobacillus casei as a model microorganism to proceed to genomewide identification of the functions required for a symbiont to establish colonization in the gut. As a result of our recent development of a transposon-mutagenesis tool that overcomes the barrier that had prevented L. casei random mutagenesis, we developed a signature-tagged mutagenesis approach combining whole-genome reverse genetics using a set of tagged transposons and in…

Pharmacological characterization of Uracil nucleotide-sensitive P2Y receptors in mouse ileum

2010

Since uracil nucleotide-preferring receptors, belonging to the P2Y receptor family and responding to either uridine triphosphate (UTP) or uridine diphosphate (UDP), have been proposed to be present at different cellular level in the gut, regulating various functions, we aimed to investigate whether their activation by uracil nucleotides may modulate the contractility of the intestinal muscle. Experiments were carried out in vitro, and the contractility of the longitudinal muscle from mouse ileum was recorded as changes of the isometric tension. UDP or UTP evoked a concentrationdependent, tetrodotoxin insensitive, contractile response. UDP effect was antagonized by suramin and by PPADS, P2 r…

A rare case of perforated ileal diverticulitis in a young man: A case report and literature review

2021

Jejunoileal diverticulosis is a rare, often asymptomatic condition, consisting of acquired false diverticula. Diagnosis of ileal perforation is usually made incidentally or after complications, including obstruction, haemorrhage and diverticulitis. A previously healthy 17-year-old man presented to the Emergency Department with diffuse abdominal pain and fever. CT scan showed air-fluid level in the RLQ and free intraperitoneal air and fluid. The patient underwent an urgent exploratory laparotomy with an intestinal resection and primary anastomosis. We report a rare case of ileal perforation, due to diverticular disease in a healthy young man, treated an urgent surgery. Such an event requires…

Une approche psychothérapeutique des phénomènes psychosomatiques et de la corporéité à l'Île de La Réunion

2016

A psychotherapeutic approach of psychosomatic phenomena and embodiment in Reunion Island Abstract The cultural foundations, the beliefs and rites of a society influence the way an individual embodies psychological perceptions and psychical experiences of the body. Language enable the investigation of cultural linguistic specificities, deciphering and working-through of related commonly held beliefs or personal meanings of these mental contents. This article first exposes the common beliefs about the human body in a reunionnese patient's original religion. It examines then the role of the patient's cultural background in psychosomatic 2 manifestations in Reunion Island. The work on this case…

A1 ADENOSINE RECEPTOR MODULATION OF CONTRACTILITY IN MOUSE DUODENUM LONGITUDINAL MUSCLE.

2010

Experimental evidence suggests that adenosine is involved in the regulation of gastrointestinal functions. In the present study we examined the influence of adenosine on the contractile activity of mouse duodenum longitudinal muscle. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction revealed the expression of all the adenosine receptors in whole thickness duodenum, being the A2B receptors expressed only in the neuromuscular layer. Mechanical activity of longitudinally oriented duodenal segments was recorded in vitro as changes in isometric tension. Adenosine produced concentration-dependent relaxation, markedly reduced by DPCPX, A1 receptor antagonist, but unaffected by DMPX or MRS 1220, A2 a…

Brenneria quercina and Serratia spp. isolated from Spanish oak trees Molecular characterization and development of PCR primers

2008

Brenneria quercina has been reported as one of the causal agents of oak decline in Spain. To investigate the bacterial variability of this pathogen from different Spanish oak forests, a collection of 38 bacterial isolates from seven geographic locations and from different oak species was analysed by sequencing 16S rDNA and rep-PCR fingerprinting. All Spanish isolates of B. quercina were grouped by rep-PCR into a homogenous cluster that differed significantly from B. quercina reference strains from California. 16S rDNA analysis revealed that 34 out of 38 isolates were Brenneria. However, four isolates belonged to the genus Serratia, suggesting that this bacterium could cause cankers in oak t…
