Micro lensing induced lineshapes in a single mode cold-atom hollow-core fiber interface
2018
We report on the observation of strong transmission line shape alterations in a cold-atom-hollow-core-fiber interface. We show that this can lead to a significant overestimation of the assigned resonant optical depth for high atom densities. By modeling light beam propagation in an inhomogeneous dispersive medium, we attribute the observations to micro lensing in the atomic ensemble in combination with the mode selection of the atom-fiber interface. The approach is confirmed by studies of Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency line shapes.

Novel plasmonic sensor design using plasmon-induced transparency
2010
We introduce a novel sensor concept in the field of plasmonics, namely plasmon-induced transparency sensors. These sensors combine localized particle plasmon resonances with extremely small sensing volume with excellent sharp spectral resonances that show a good respose to refractive index changes of the surrounding environment. The principle is based on the plasmonic analog of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) between a radiative dipole and a nonradiative quadrupole antenna. This effect yields a spectrally narrow resonance within a broad localized particle plasmon resonance in the near-infrared spectral region [1, 2]. Using deposition of biotin and streptavidin, we demonstrate…
Electrochemically induced free solvent transfer in thin poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) films
2015
International audience; In dynamic intrinsically conducting films, counterions transfer and conformational movements stimulated by the electrochemical reactions affect the free water molecules transfer. Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) or PEDOT is included in this category. Here, p-doping of PEDOT immersed in LiClO4 aqueous solution was explored by ac-electrogravimetry. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy combined with mass impedance spectroscopy proves useful for species identification and kinetics. For PEDOT, new equations have been developed to analyze the ac -electrogravimetry response. Quantitatively, faster free water transfer and slower coupled View the MathML sourceClO4−/free wat…
Detection of deuterium retention by LIBS at different background pressures
2017
ITER plans foresee the quantitative diagnostics of fuel retention in reactor walls at near-atmospheric pressures. Using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for this purpose assumes a reliable resolving of Balmer α-lines of hydrogen isotopes in spectra of plasma produced by focused laser radiation onto the target surface. To develop LIBS for quantitative diagnostics of fuel retention during the maintenance breaks of ITER, the effect of background gas pressure on the laser-induced plasma characteristics has been studied. The background pressure limits the expansion rate of plasma and as a result it leads to higher plasma concentrations. At the same time the limiting factor of the reso…
Moisture ingress in photovoltaic modules: A review
2021
Abstract Moisture ingress in photovoltaic (PV) modules is the core of most degradation mechanisms that lead to PV module power degradation. Moisture in EVA encapsulant can lead to metal grids corrosion, delamination and discolouration of encapsulants, potential induced degradation, optical and adhesion losses. The present work is a review of literature on the causes, effects, detection, and mitigation techniques of moisture ingress in PV modules. Literature highlights on determining the diffusivity, solubility, and permeability of polymeric components of PV modules via water vapour transmission rate tests, gravimetric, and immersion methods, have been presented. Electroluminescence, photolu…
Overview of radiation induced point defects in silica-based optical fibers
2019
International audience; Silica-based optical fibers, fiber-based devices and optical fiber sensors are today integrated in a variety of harsh environments associated with radiation constraints. Under irradiation, the macroscopic properties of the optical fibers are modified through three main basic mechanisms: the radiation induced attenuation, the radiation induced emission and the radiation induced refractive index change. Depending on the fiber profile of use, these phenomena differently contribute to the degradation of the fiber performances and then have to be either mitigated for radiation tolerant systems or exploited to design radiation detectors and dosimeters. Considering the stro…
UV light induced luminescence processes in AlN nanotips and ceramics
2005
UV induced luminescence properties of AlN (Eg = 6.2 eV) have been studied for AlN nanotips and AlN ceramics, using methods of photoluminescence, optically stimulated luminescence and thermoluminescence. In both types of objects the main luminescence band, which appears in prompt and stimulated emission spectra around 400 nm, arises due to presence of oxygen-related defects. The main difference between AlN nanotips and AlN ceramics is observed in excitation spectra and TL properties. Basing on the experimental results it is assumed that several different energy transfer mechanisms occur in AlN. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
RADICAL DISTRIBUTIONS IN AMMONIUM TARTRATE SINGLE CRYSTALS EXPOSED TO PHOTON AND NEUTRON BEAMS
2014
The radiation therapy carried out by means of heavy charged particles (such as carbon ions) and neutrons is rapidly becoming widespread worldwide. The success of these radiation therapies relies on the high density of energy released by these particles or by secondary particles produced after primary interaction with matter. The biological damages produced by ionising radiations in tissues and cells depend more properly on the energy released per unit pathlength, which is the linear energy transfer and which determines the radiation quality. To improve the therapy effectiveness, it is necessary to grasp the mechanisms of free radical production and distribution after irradiation with these …
Four-wave mixing in a ring cavity
2014
We investigate a four-wave mixing process in an N interaction scheme in Rb vapor placed inside a low-finesse ring cavity. We observe strong amplification and generation of a probe signal, circulating in the cavity, in the presence of two strong optical pump fields. We study the variations in probe field gain and dispersion as functions of experimental parameters with an eye on potential application of such a system for enhanced rotation measurements. A density-matrix calculation is performed to model the system, and the theoretical results are compared to those of the experiment.
