Hôtels et dépendances

2011

This article addresses the issue of job quality for housekeepers in …

Projects, careers and resistances in hotels

2009

The hotel industry rhythms appear as a hindrance to staff loyalty and female careers development. However, two hotel networks of the Accor group, Etap Hotel and Formule 1 stand out from this general pattern with a presence of female managers (38% of managers). This case incites to wonder about career ladders within these budget hotel chains. Are the assets and the obstacles combined in the same way for men and for women? Which views have the employees and managers about their jobs, their working conditions and their plans for the future ?

Live Music in the Tourist Industry : A Comparative Study Between the Finnish Hotel Cruise Lines and Sharm EL Sheikh's Resorts Entertainment

2013

The primary aim of this study is to focus on the tourists, singer-musicians' and hotel managers' experiences with live music in Finnish hotel cruise lines and Sharm EL Sheikh's seaside resorts. The tourist, singer-musician and hotel manager relations - although an integral part of the tourist experience - have received little attention in past tourism and music studies. Thus, the purpose of this research will be to show that by observing these different informants performance rituals, interactions, and attitudes towards local entertainment in the tourist industry, we could offer insightful guidelines to better understand the cultural significance of live music in the tourist experience, oft…

Biomass Waste Processing into Artificial Humic Substances

2021

Abstract To address the biomass waste processing problem and transform it into refractory forms of carbon, recently suggested hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of biomass in alkaline environment can be considered as a prospective and climate neutral approach. Biomass HTC provides possibilities to obtain form of biochar (hydrochar) and artificial humic substances, however the conditions of the HTC have not been much studied. Optimization by Response Surface Methodology of the HTC using microwave treatment with three experimental variables (treatment temperature, length of microwave treatment, amount of biomass per volume) provides the possibility to significantly increase the yield of humic s…

Hydrophobin (HFBI): a potential fusion partner for one-step purification of recombinant proteins from insect cells

2008

Hydrophobins play an important role in binding and assembly of fungal surface structures as well as in medium-air interactions. These, hydrophobic properties provide interesting possibilities when purification of macromolecules is concerned. In aqueous micellar two-phase systems, based on surfactants, the water soluble hydrophobins are concentrated inside micellar structures and, thus, distributed to defined aqueous phases. This, one-step purification is attractive particularly when large-scale production of recombinant proteins is concerned. In the present study the hydrophobin HFBI of Trichoderma reesei was expressed as an N-terminal fusion with chicken avidin in baculovirus infected inse…

Characterization of Rabbit Mesenchymal Cell Attachment on Calcium Phosphate Surface

2014

In the current study, the effect of three different treated surfaces of hydroxyapatite and β-tricalcium phosphate on mesenchymal cell attachment has been investigated. Calcium phosphate powders have been synthesized, uniaxially pressed, polished and sintered. Mesenchymal cells have been seeded onto unpolished, polished and polished-thermally etched ceramic samples. The ceramic samples have been characterized by XRD, FTIR and SEM. Results have shown that the best cell attachment and morphology are on the unpolished surface indicating that relatively rough surface is better for cell application.

Alternative Military Keynesianism as a Tool of Civil-Military Cooperation in the Framework of the EU Defence Policy

2015

During the last year the security threats to the European Union have increased dramatically under the influence of military crisis in eastern Ukraine and Islamic terrorist activities in Europe. Consequently the demand for defence in the member states of the European Union has become greater than in previous years. This situation leads to the dilemma when the high level of defence expenditure can hamper the financial support of other sectors of national economy. Therefore it is necessary to increase the efficiency of available financial resources that have been allocated for the defence without a significant increase in defence expenditure. In order to achieve this efficiency the concept of cl…

INDUSTRY - A PILLAR OF STRENGTH ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT. ROMANIAN SEQUENCES

2012

In the last 300 years, industry was the key driver of economic development and social, political, military, cultural and spiritual, which are inconceivable without the contribution of this important sector of the economy of any country. At least in these 300 years since the first industrial revolution, industrialization took place in every country in the world along with free trade, protectionism alternation - free schimbism contributing to balancing economic and social development. Nothing is more important than industry between the four basic economic sectors (agriculture, industry, trade and transport). Recrudescence services of any kind, but also the unprecedented quaternary sector (lei…

The Nanoeconomics of Firm‐Level Decision‐Making and Industry Evolution : Evidence from 200 Years of Paper and Pulp Making

2020

Research summary We explore the qualitative differences in entries and exits over time. Using qualitative and quantitative data on 96 firms over 200 years, we study industry evolution from the perspective of individual decision‐making situations. Our historical and statistical analyses reveal the vital role of technology investments in determining firm outcomes, and the technological, institutional and governance dynamics that lead firms to invest or to abstain. Our main theoretical and methodological contribution concerns the importance of the multiplicity of firm‐level rationalities and decisions as fundamentals in theorizing on industry evolution. Managerial summary What determines firm …
