O-115 Parental whole-exome sequencing allows the discovery of genetic causes of extreme IVF phenotypes such as oocyte/embryo developmental arrest and…

2021

Abstract Study question Do whole-exome sequencing (WES) data from infertile women provide valuable information for the discovery of genes/pathways involved in extreme IVF phenotypes, i.e. oocyte/embryo developmental arrest? Summary answer The development of a specific bioinformatic WES pipeline revealed known and new candidate genes/pathways for isolated oocyte/embryo developmental failure, providing the foundation to scale up research. What is known already The use of IVF has made it possible to identify extreme and isolated infertility phenotypes such as recurrent low oocytes maturity (LMR), recurrent low fertilization rate (LFR), or preimplantation developmental arrest (PDA) that would re…

Luteinised unruptured follicle syndrome: pathophysiological background and new target therapy in assisted reproductive treatments

2022

Luteinised unruptured follicle syndrome (LUFS) is a cause of infertility consisting in the unruptured of the dominant follicle after the LH-surge. In fact, during assisted reproductive treatments (ART) clomiphene citrate and letrozole are frequently administered in order to achieve ovulation. However, considering the pathophysiology of LUFS, new possible therapy can be proposed. On this scenario, we performed a review of the literature searching for LUFS recurrency and its impact in infertility and ART. An inflammation theory has been proposed that can be fuel for further therapeutic possibilities. In particular, considering the increase in granulocytes accumulation, the granulocyte colony-…

Chronic Endometritis

2016

Chronic endometritis is a persistent inflammation of the inner lining of the uterine cavity. Several studies have demonstrated that it is a condition frequently associated with repeated unexplained implantation failure at in vitro fertilization, recurrent miscarriage, as well as poor obstetric outcomes such as preterm labor. The aim of this paper is to provide information about diagnosis and treatment of this condition to improve reproductive outcome. In fact, significantly higher rate of successful pregnancies was achieved in those patients in whom antibiotic treatment was able to normalize both hysteroscopic and histologic endometrial pattern compared with women who were not treated or wi…

How do individual attachment patterns of both members of couples affect their perceived infertility stress? An actor–partner interdependence analysis

2016

Abstract There exists a lack of dyadic research examining how the attachment characteristics of infertile individuals influence their experience of infertility-related distress. The actor partner interdependence model was used to test a theoretical model by examining whether both infertile wives and husbands, who display high levels of attachment avoidance and/or attachment anxiety, will experience infertility-related distress. Seven hundred and seventy individuals (385 couples) completed the experience in close relationships, the fertility problem inventory, and the state-trait anxiety inventory prior to infertility treatment. Wives' distress was predicted by their own and by their husband…

Sperm selection by swim-up in terms of deoxyribonucleic acid fragmentation as measured by the sperm chromatin dispersion test is altered in heavy smo…

2007

Toxic habits and their relationship with male factor infertility have been a matter of investigation in recent years, and smoking is one of the most common lifestyle toxic exposures to harmful substances. The analysis of sperm deoxyribonucleic acid fragmentation after capacitation detected a detrimental effect produced by tobacco, and this deleterious effect alters the sperm swim-up selection process in smokers, although the molecular and cellular basis of this phenomenon remain to be elucidated.

Sexual satisfaction in male infertility.

1999

Infertility is proposed to be a continuing stressor for couples suffering from involuntary childlessness. A long duration of the desire for a child and, correspondingly, a longer period of diagnostic and treatment procedures could have a negative impact on sexual satisfaction, thus leading to an unfavorable psychological circuit. The present evaluation should clarify the state of sexual satisfaction and relationships, with relevant parameters in 68 men with fertility problems, of couples with involuntary childlessness. Subjects reported relatively high average levels of present sexual satisfaction with only nonsignificant lower scores (p = .08) compared to recalled sexual satisfaction prior…

Re: Infertility Etiologies Are Genetically and Clinically Linked with Other Diseases in Single Meta-Diseases.

2015

The present review aims to ascertain whether different infertility etiologies share particular genes and/or molecular pathways with other pathologies and are associated with distinct and particular risks of later-life morbidity and mortality. In order to reach this aim, we use two different sources of information: (1) a public web server named DiseaseConnect ( http://disease-connect.org ) focused on the analysis of common genes and molecular mechanisms shared by diseases by integrating comprehensive omics and literature data; and (2) a literature search directed to find clinical comorbid relationships of infertility etiologies with only those diseases appearing after infertility is manifest…
