Geometric efficiency for a parallel-surface source and detector system with at least one axisymmetric surface

Abstract An exact and numerically friendly method is given to calculate the geometric efficiency G of a planar radiation source and cosine detector system. Either the source or the detector, but not necessarily both, must have axial symmetry. For two non-coaxial disks the results are in exact agreement with a recent generalization of Ruby's formula for G. Detailed formulas and sample numerical results are given for a disk combined with rectangles and triangles. A disk and a general polygon can be solved by dividing the polygon into triangles. Nonlinearity and Disorder in the Statistical Mechanics of Integrable Systems

Attention is drawn to a theory of the statistical mechanics (SM) of the integrable models in 1+1 dimension — a theory of ‘soliton statistical mechanics’ classical and quantum [1–17]. This SM provides a generic example of integrable nonlinearity interacting with disorder. In the generic classical examples, such as the classical SM of the sine-Gordon model, phonons provide disorder in which sit coherent structures — the kink-like solitons. But these solitons are dressed by the disorder, in equilibrium, while the breather-like solitons break up to form the disordered structures which are the phonons in thermal equilibrium. Stochastic Dynamics of Ferroelectric Polarization

This study is addressed to the conceptual and technical problems emerging for ferroelectric systems out of thermodynamic equilibrium. The theoretical setup includes a lattice of interacting cells, each cell obeying regular dynamics determined by Ginzburg-Landau model Hamiltonians whereas relaxation toward minimum energy state is reproduced by thermal environment. Representative examples include polarization response of a single lattice cell, birth of a domain as triggered by the ergodicity breaking, and the effect of nonlocal electroelastic interaction all evidenced combining the Fokker-Planck, imaginary time Schrodinger and symplectic integration techniques.

SU-E-T-343: Valencia Applicator Commissioning Using a Micro-Chamber Array

Purpose: In the commissioning and QA of surface isotope-based applicators, source-indexer distance (SID) has a great influence in the flatness, symmetry and output. To these purposes, methods described in the literature are the use of a special insert at the entrance of dwell chamber or radiochromic films. Here we present the experience with a micro-chamber array to perform the commissioning and QA of Valencia applicators. Methods: Valencia applicators have been used, the classic and the new extra-shielded version. Direct Bound on the Total Decay Width of the Top Quark inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2009

We present the first direct experimental bound on the total decay width of the top quark, Gamma(t), using 955 pb(-1) of the Tevatron's p (p) over bar collisions recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We identify 253 top-antitop pair candidate events. The distribution of reconstructed top quark mass from these events is fitted to templates representing different values of the top quark width. Using a confidence interval based on likelihood-ratio ordering, we extract an upper limit at 95% C.L. of Gamma(t) < 13.1 GeV for an assumed top quark mass of 175 GeV/c(2).

Two-parameter determinant representation of seventh order rogue wave solutions of the NLS equation

We present a new representation of solutions of focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) equation as a quotient of two determinants. We construct families of quasi-rational solutions of the NLS equation depending on two parameters, a and b. We construct, for the first time, analytical expressions of Peregrine breather of order 7 and multi-rogue waves by deformation of parameters. These expressions make possible to understand the behavior of the solutions. In the case of the Peregrine breather of order 7, it is shown for great values of parameters a or b the appearance of the Peregrine breather of order 5. 35Q55; 37K10

Full Wave Solution for Intel CPU With a Heat Sink for EMC Investigations

A CPU with a heat sink (e.g. Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Pentium dual core) is a challenging problem for EMC analysis. A Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) device was modelled using the Finite Element Method (FEM) frequency domain solver to obtain a 3D full wave solution. The electromagnetic (EM) radiation emitted from these high power microelectronic circuits connected to a heat sink was found to have resonant frequencies around 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with reflection coefficients less than -19 dB and -8 dB respectively. Time-Domain Integration of Terahertz pulses

We report on the time-domain integration of terahertz pulses obtained via the tight confinement of the radiation in a tapered two-wire waveguide. Both simulation and experimental results prove the time integration capability of this structure.
