Design of unknown inputs proportional integral observers for TS fuzzy models

2014

In this paper the design of unknown inputs proportional integral observers for Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models subject to unmeasurable decision variables is proposed. These unknown inputs affect both state and output of the system. The synthesis of these observers is based on two hypotheses that the unknown inputs are under the polynomials form with their kth derivatives zero for the first one and bounded norm for the second one, hence two approaches. The Lyapunov theory and L"2-gain technique are used to develop the stability conditions of such observers in LMIs (linear matrix inequality) formulation. A simulation example is given to validate and compare the proposed design conditions for …

On integral input-to-state stability for a feedback interconnection of parameterised discrete-time systems

2014

This paper addresses integral input-to-state stability iISS for a feedback interconnection of parameterised discrete-time systems involving two subsystems. Particularly, we give a construction for a smooth iISS Lyapunov function for the whole system from the sum of nonlinearly weighted Lyapunov functions of individual subsystems. Motivations for such a construction are given. We consider two main cases. The first one investigates iISS for the whole system when both subsystems are iISS. The second one gives iISS for the interconnected system when one of subsystems is allowed to be input-to-state stable. The approach is also valid for both discrete-time cascades and a feedback interconnection…

Chaos Synchronization Based on Unknown Input Proportional Multiple-Integral Fuzzy Observer

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/670878 Open Access This paper presents an unknown input Proportional Multiple-Integral Observer (PIO) for synchronization of chaotic systems based on Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy chaotic models subject to unmeasurable decision variables and unknown input. In a secure communication configuration, this unknown input is regarded as a message encoded in the chaotic system and recovered by the proposed PIO. Both states and outputs of the fuzzy chaotic models are subject to polynomial unknown input with kth derivative zero. Using Lyapunov stability theory…

Toxicity of ligand-dependent Cre recombinases and generation of a conditional Cre deleter mouse allowing mosaic recombination in peripheral tissues.

2007

Ligand-activated Cre recombinases are widely used for studying gene function in vitro and in conditional mouse models. To compare ligand-dependent Cre recombinases, different Cre estrogen receptor fusions were introduced into the ROSA26 locus of embryonic stem (ES) cells and assayed for genotoxicity and recombination efficiency. Of the tested recombinases, the CreERT2 variant showed no toxicity and was highly responsive to ligand induction. To constitutively express CreERT2 in mice and also to clarify whether the CreERT2 system displays background activity, we generated a knock-in mouse line harboring the CreERT2 coding region under the control of the ROSA26 locus. Analysis of this ROSA26-…

Reassessing British Conservative Euroscepticism as A Case of Party (Mis)Management

2015

Much has already been written about internal party divisions and European integration (Hix and Lord 1997; Conti 2007; Szczerbiak and Taggart 2008; Conti 2014), with the example of the British Conservative Party of the 1990s often used as a textbook case of a mainstream government party expressing some forms of opposition to European integration. In a wider comparative framework, the party can also be located within a Eurosceptic drift across the centre-right in the EU (Best 2012, p. 140). The case of the British Conservative Party is all the more relevant as the history of European integration shows how party families on the centre-right initially played an active part in the setting up of …

Fiscal flows in Europe: The redistributive effects of the EU budget

2000

Fiscal Flows in Europe: The Redistributive Effects of the EU Budget. — In this paper we analyze the redistributive effects of the EU budget among European countries, exploring the relationship between income and fiscal flows, both in per capita terms. Using a new data set on EU budgets from 1986 to 1998, we find that the EU budget has a redistributive effect, though only on its expenditure side. The most redistributive expenditure category is the Regional Fund, followed by the Social Fund and by the guarantee section of the EAGGF. All of them have become increasingly redistributive in time. Total budgetary revenues show only proportionality with income. As regards the net financial balance,…

Business Cycle Affiliations in the Context of European Integration

2007

We study affiliations for the countries of the European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) with Germany and the USA, using various business cycle measures derived from quarterly real GDP. These measures are Hodrick-Prescott and Baxter-King filtered series and annual growth rates. By using rolling contemporaneous and maximum (over a short lead/lag interval) correlations, we document increasing correlations of EMU countries with Germany, with these typically being largest during the 1990s. We also document a strong leading role for the USA in relation to these countries in the period since 1993, thereby correcting the fallacy that the European business cycle was disjointed from the USA for mos…

EUROscepticism and Monetary Security in Europe

2018

By deliberating on the correlations between the monetary security and the EUROsceptic views of the European citizenry and elites, this chapter addresses the problem of supranational monetary policy and the consequences it has for the economic security of the EU and its constitutive member states. The analysis starts with the introduction into the concept of EUROscepticism and its relations with the classical Euroscepticism. Then the second key term of the chapter is defined, which is the monetary security—nested in the general understanding of the economic security. Here, not only the author provides his own understanding of the monetary security, but also discusses its main levels, dimensi…
