Indefinite integrals of some special functions from a new method

2015

A substantial number of indefinite integrals of special functions are presented, which have been obtained using a new method presented in a companion paper [Conway JT. A Lagrangian method for deriving new indefinite integrals of special functions. Integral Transforms Spec Funct. 2015; submitted to]. The method was originally derived from the Euler–Lagrange equations but an elementary proof is also presented in [Conway JT. A Lagrangian method for deriving new indefinite integrals of special functions. Integral Transforms Spec Funct. 2015; submitted to]. Sample results are presented here for Bessel functions, Airy functions and hypergeometric functions. More extensive results are given for th…

Pseudo-Abelian integrals along Darboux cycles

2008

We study polynomial perturbations of integrable, non-Hamiltonian system with first integral of Darboux-type with positive exponents. We assume that the unperturbed system admits a period annulus. The linear part of the Poincare return map is given by pseudo-Abelian integrals. In this paper we investigate analytic properties of these integrals. We prove that iterated variations of these integrals vanish identically. Using this relation we prove that the number of zeros of these integrals is locally uniformly bounded under generic hypothesis. This is a generic analog of the Varchenko-Khovanskii theorem for pseudo-Abelian integrals. Finally, under some arithmetic properties of exponents, the p…

On the Convergence of Formal Integrals in Finite Time

1982

Consider a differential system: x = f (x) + e g(x), \(x \in {R^n}.\). Let h(x) = ho(x) + eh1 (x)... a “third” integral. For finite time t, I obtain an eo such that the series h(x) converges if e > eo. When t tends to infinite, eo tends to zero.

Kirkwood-Buff Integrals for Finite Volumes.

2012

Exact expressions for finite-volume Kirkwood−Buff (KB) integrals are derived for hyperspheres in one, two, and three dimensions. These integrals scale linearly with inverse system size. From this, accurate estimates of KB integrals for infinite systems are obtained, and it is shown that they converge much better than the traditional expressions. We show that this approach is very suitable for the computation of KB integrals from molecular dynamics simulations, as we obtain KB integrals for open systems by simulating closed systems.

Information Integration, Coordination Failures, and Quality of Prescribing

2022

Poor information flows hamper coordination, potentially leading to suboptimal decisions in health care. We examine the effects of a large-scale policy of health information integration. We use the staggered adoption of a nationwide electronic prescribing system over four years in Finland and prescription-level administrative data. Our results show no discernible effect on the probability of co-prescribing harmful drugs on average, but the heterogeneity analysis reveals that this probability reduces in rural regions, by 35 percent. This substantial reduction is driven by interacting prescriptions from different physicians and generalists. Information integration can therefore improve the coo…

Labour Mobility in Construction: European Implications of the Laval un Partneri Dispute with Swedish Labour

2006

The accession to the European Union of new member states from central and eastern Europe, with weak trade union movements, poorly developed social dialogue and inferior working conditions, has been viewed as a threat to regulated labour standards in the EU-15. This article examines a high-profile labour dispute arising from the conditions of Latvian construction contract labour in Sweden. The dispute exposes weaknesses in the protective floor of minimum standards offered by the posted workers Directive. It also goes to the core of the debate about the preservation of a ‘European social model’ and the proposed Services Directive.

The role of Spanish local development and employment officers in human resource management

2009

The aim of this study is to contrast the existence of a significant relation between good human resource practices and business results. The empirical analysis is applied to strategies implemented by Local Development and Employment Officers (LDEOs) with regard to the management of social integration and job placement programs within the context of Local Development in Spain for both the universalist and contingent perspectives of Human Resource Management. The novelty of this study lies in the impact local development programs are having on social integration and job placement, and, in particular, the effects of project management.

Feldenkrais ‘Functional Integration’ Increases Body Contact Surface in the Supine Position: A Randomized-Controlled Experimental Study

2018

Feldenkrais ‘Functional Integration’ (FI) is a widely used type of body work with a focus on the continuous integration of body sensations and awareness with movement. The method is, amongst others, known for improving balance in aging populations, but also for its ability to relax muscles. With participants treated in the supine position FI is potentially changing the surface area of the body in contact with the surface on which a participant is lying. So far, no prior study has assessed this claim. We evaluated objectively and subjectively if a treatment with FI would induce changes in pressure and contact surface of the body on the mat. Thirty volunteers received an individual treatment …

Motivational configurations of cultural intelligence, social integration, and performance in global virtual teams

2021

Abstract Global virtual teams (GVTs), electronically connected workgroups of geographically dispersed team members in multinational settings, may suffer from less social integration. However, they may also benefit from an increased ability to process information due to a richer portfolio of ideas and problem-solving approaches that the team’s diversity provides. We propose that the cultural intelligence (CQ) of team members contributes positively to social integration in GVTs and improves performance. Using data from 263 GVTs, we utilized both structural equation modeling and necessary condition analyses to explore the associations between motivational CQ and a team’s social integration and…
