In this chapter, the author politicizes the ontological dimension of EU studies. He discusses ontology’s power to determine the real by analyzing some of its unformulated presuppositions and the links with knowledge and action. He argues that key European institutions like the European Commission do not change only because of institutional dynamics but also in relation to transnational interplays of differentiated agents operating simultaneously in multiple social spheres. Social support from intimate and confiding relationships has received a great deal of attention; however, the study of the community as a relevant source of support has been comparatively lacking. In this article, we present a multidimensional measure of community support (Perceived Community Support Questionnaire, PCSQ). This article discusses the role and competencies of the European Council (EC) in the EU regime, using the heuristic and methodological resources of procedural commentaries, parliamentary rhetoric, conceptual history and political regime analysis. Modularity and complexity go hand in hand in the evolution of the skull of primates. Because analyses of these two parameters often use different approaches, we do not know yet how modularity evolves within, or as a consequence of, an also-evolving complex organization. Here we use a novel network theory-based approach (Anatomical Network Analysis) to assess how the organization of skull bones constrains the co-evolution of modularity and complexity among primates. Rapid Detection of the ERV-K(C4) Retroviral Insertion Reveals Further Structural Polymorphism of the Complement C4 Genes in Old World Primates

The fourth component of complement (C4) is coded for by two tandem-duplicated genes located in the class III region of the MHC of humans as well as a number of primates. A C4 gene size polymorphism giving rise to two gene variants of 16 and 22.3 kb length can be attributed to a complete endogenous retroviral insertion of 6.3 kb termed ERV-K(C4) in intron 9 of the long C4 genes. We developed a simple PCR-based screening assay to detect the presence of this insertion, and tested a number of unrelated animals from old world primate species. The presence of the ERV insertion in the orangutan, rhesus macaque and green monkey as well as its absence in gorillas and chimpanzees could be confirmed. …

Abstract In this paper, a new algorithm for the kinetic data analysis is presented. The main objective of the algorithm is to retrieve the maximum information concerned with a multi-response complex chemical system evolving in time, in order to retrieve the rate constants (calibration problem) or the initial concentration of species. As a difference with other data treatments found in the literature, the algorithm is able to estimate the uniqueness and reliability of the calculated rate constants. The vocationalisation of university programmes in France: its consequences for employability and mobility

In the last three decades, French Universities have offered an increasing number of vocational programmes. More recently, the introduction of vocational Bachelors in 1999 was designed to extend the 'vocationalisation' of French Universities at the Bachelor Level. Using a French follow-up survey on transition from school/ university to work, called "Génération 2004", our paper show that vocational higher education graduates from 2004 cohort entered the labour market in better conditions than their predecessors (from 2010 cohort).
